SCCA at NHIS

guy that sits next to me at work rides NHIS with the Sports Car Club of America. Got first place in his class last weekend and ran the second fastest lap at 1:16.##

he says the record is 1:11.## from some guy that has a little formula car or something.

they run the road course too

Road course minus the T12 chicane. There's a road that goes from 11 straight onto the track.

I walked over to their garage at one of the trackdays and the guy working on his car told me the very often use the NASCAR turn one instead of what he called the motorcycle turn one (1, 1a, 2). He said his wife did 1:12s on that config in an F3 with a very modest inline four. About 160hp.

we spoke for a while again today. apparently they are running the same road course as the bikes. maybe depends on class or session or something if they change it up. yes they turn in at 1 and go through 1a and 2, and yes they go through 11 and 12 but there is no passing.

apparently turn 3 is a hell-hole when 40 cars are coming off the start and cramming themselves in there at once lol.

one of his friends has the ariol atom, but hasn't run it up there yet because he's having trouble getting it registered in MA. apparently they only sell them with a bill of sale, no title, and make you figure it all out yourself...

One of these days Im gonna head up and watch cars, there isnt a lot of room for motorcycles, I cant imagine how much fun it would be to watch the cars get around there

I've never seen cars go through the chicane. Must be pretty damned tight.

Single file for lap times... I don't think they actually race.

that's wierd, I've heard a few different things. there def. is racing/passing though; maybe different groups have different rules? he was just telling me about some dude who crashed his lotus elise while trying to pass in 9 & got hit.

he runs w/ the people who have track-dedicated cars. I guess some classes like the BMW cup are full of people who are using their regular cars. I can see then if they'd have stricter rules on contact, passing, etc.

here's a quick pass: YouTube - NHIS In Car Clip, Race 1

i saw some other videos on youtube too. they must run different configurations at different times because I did see one where they just shot the nascar oval rather than do the 1, 1a, and 2 thing.

Some orgs do timed laps, others race wheel to wheel. It's all about the benjamins.

It actually looks pretty boring to me...

On a side note, I have a serious hankering for a Lotus Elise. That one in the vid was stinkin up the place though... Looks like car guys make all the same mistakes as bike guys...

In-car videos always look pretty lame, becuase they lack the lean angle of the bike videos. Its much more exciting when you're there.

Yeah, I'm sure it is. Just about 4x less exciting than a bike

I like kart racing, so I can imagine it getting fun. Just too expensive for me.

the cars run on thursday mornings before our practice session in the afternoon, sometimes if i can i go up early and watch while i set up my pit....its pretty interesting. it amazes me that they pull the lap times they do....cuz they look like molasses coming out of the corners when you're used to watching bikes accelerate down the straights haha
