I might be heading down to quincy today to look at and possibly buy a new bike,

First off what do i have to look out for over there? I am taking (on the phone) to a sales guy named Mike and looking at an 07 FZ6.

2nd off, does anyone want to go? I will be riding and maybe be heading out with a different bike than i rode in with and might want some company to make sure i don't get screwed over in the process (this will be my first new bike).

You will have them in a corner on a 07 model for sure. You get to use points like hey if you give me a good enough deal I will buy now and then you wont have to pay taxes come inventory time. And who the hell else will be buying a bike between now and the next 4 months. I hope you beat them up good on the price

just dont go there for repairs. they fucked my bike up big time and wont claim any responsibility. the parts dept dont know much about their products either. they tried ordering the parts for a katana because they didnt know the difference between a GSX-R and GSX-F

Repairs? You must be mistaken He is buying a Yamaha. As in I have just over 20k on my fz1 and the only repair I had to make was a smoked rear wheel bearing a few thou ago and that was a few weeks after I changed my sprockets and is very likely I let some crap get in there.

yeah I bought my bike there, mike was extremely nice... although I had to go back four times to resign the sales agreement... sales is about the only good dept at ssms... stay away from everything else and ull be fine... make sure the bike is 100% stock though... (had probs wit them lowering my bike... told them 1 inch ended up getting almost 3 inches)

I remember when ssms was Freddies. Never had the kind of problems mentioned here. Freddie seemed like a nice enough guy. Anyone else remember "back in the day?"

Good luck with that '07...lets hope you get a good deal. Just make sure there arent any hidden charges built in.

I remember Mike, I almost bought my bike from him. He seemed like a decent guy. I put a deposit on a bike and ended up buying one at Cyles 128 since they had the color I really wanted. SSMS was cool though, they gave me my deposit back no problems.

I think Duey used to work there. Maybe he can give you some tips.

I just got back and they were very nice in the sales dept. Mike was a decent guy and i think it made things go well for everyone since i told them up front what i was looking for and they made it happen within $300 which was close enough for me.

I rolled out of there with my brand new FZ6 with 3 miles on it and left my 04' YZF600r there with 34,000 miles (it turned on the way there) and lower monthly payments than i currently had on my 04'

I'll take some pics tomorrow...

Congratulations!

I'm glad that you got what you want for the amount of money you were willing to spend. Winter is definitely the best time to purchase a new bike as dealers don't want bikes hanging around all winter just costing them more and more money.

I have put about 100 miles on the FZ6 today and so far it definately has more power (even though i am not able to open it up due to break in period), it is actually a little more upright. I look forward to really seeing what this thing can do come springtime and i don;t have to worry about ice and sand on the roads

well i tired to get an inspection sticker there, and they failed for front and rear tires, rear brake pads, tire hugger, chain guard, license plate light, relocate the plate, and needing a new rear sprocket. Like a dummy, I had the tires, rear pads, oil hcange, and sprocket done there. NEVER AGAIN!

I enjoy going to SSMS, had good experience in sales, I get parts and had recall work done there. Also had my '01 R6 rebuilt there after a dog ran out in front of me. Bought my first bike there, 99 Ninja 500 used, and have my Warrior serviced there. Cycles128 earned my business for the Warrior, $1000 less bottom line, gave more for trade since they have a huge amount of used sportbikes and my '03 R1 was desirable to them where as SSMS (Dave) was worried about stepping up to it in trade value. That's ok, he's gone, Mike's the main guy now and he's good to deal with as I've known him a while!

Southshore (as well as cycles 128, parkway, etc etc) are all good for one thing: Go in there, beat the shit out of them on the price of a new bike, walk out with it, and never go back.

If you want to get some warranty work done or recall stuff, go to Riverside. They are nice and know what they are doing. The rest of the stealerships all cater to the squids and they do their business as such.

Hell I bought mine at Southshore because I was able to get the best price from them.... they did a shitty job putting the bike together (I wish I could have just bought it in the crate) and didn't do any of the recall work already needed on the bike up to that point. Then, I went home and checked every god damn fastener on it because I figured there were mistakes. There were. Then I took it to Riverside to get the free new air filter from the recall.

As far as maintenance, grab a shop manual and you should be able to figure most stuff out yourself.

I think that's the first time I've heard a girl complain about getting 3 times as many inches as she asked for...
