Lot of money ... is the protection really there though?

how about these boots?

The specs don't say much about protective features, but at 17,000lbs I don't think you'll need to worry that much, you won't be moving fast enough to get hurt.

i love my sidi's and have no intention of switching, but those puma's seem pretty sweet (i love puma shoes/clothes)

Yeah i love puma as well and had wanted these with the orange for over a year now. They are/where to hard to get a hold of, and i am now very happy with my dainese axial ins
