1st Ride in 2008

I just got back from a quick ride on the New KLR. What an awesome machine. So much better than my last one. Granted new bikes are like that when comparing an 08 to a 97 but that thing just felt right on. Brakes are good, suspension felt good, and I was flying on back roads without realizing it. What a fun machine. I did 14 quick miles but it was awesome. Definitly need to get my heated grips on as I feel like I will be doing some more riding before spring.

Bruce

Re: 1st Ride in 2008

It's so tempting to get one. Especially because there is a winter special on the 08's at North Reading Kawi. $4800...

Hey Paul,

Didnt get it in NY, got it in Boston on ADV rider. He wanted 4800 at first but went down to 4200. I couldnt resist it so I pulled the trigger. I will have the grips on in a couple weeks, then we can have some fun.

I'm putting the new valve shims in my this morning, then I'll be ready to join you on a ride on the next nice day. Already gave the boss notice that the next warm day will be a vacation for me.

Is it really that much different than your old KLR?

You are more than welcome to test it out Clay. It really is better. Smoother, and just more enjoyable. Could be that it is new still but I am liking it. Here is a nice read up Skip sent me.

Re: 1st Ride in 2008

Took it out again today for another 25 miles or so. Fun fun...I like my new toy. Its nice to have the confidence of a dual sport too with all the sand. I even got to wave at another bike, an older Red KLR. Anyone here?

Did you see the voltage meter mentioned in your link above?

Turn Signal Module

Looks like it may be a little more weather-proof because you can hide away the main module.

Are you saying the one that I bought isnt weatherproof? I like the idea of the clock and a thermometer too.

Re: 1st Ride in 2008

I don't think it is fully weatherproof. I would check with the company that sells it before you buy. It would suck to order/install that only to have it fritz out the first time it gets really wet.

A little better than the old version but not great. Stay off the brake, leave the headlight on low, stay above 2500rpm and there seems to be about 100-110 watts for acessories.
