Re: what track days/racing has taught me

Great thread Wookie. I can't wait to start the learning in April.

Re: what track days/racing has taught me

I for one feel like I have improved my wet riding
skills 100%.

I used to be super nervous when it rained, always worried
about how much traction I had. After doing a couple
of track days with "wet" sessions I now can ride on the
street in the rain without really being phased at all.

Just gotta avoid man hole covers and steel plates !

Re: what track days/racing has taught me

From the POV of an ex-racer, I've learned that track days are relaxing and that racing is not.

One major reason I don't race any more is the stress factor leading up to races. Once on the grid, I'm relaxed (in an intense sort of way), but the two or three days previous just wear me out from the low levels of adrenaline.

Track days are so much more chilled where you can concentrate and work on whatever you want. Yes, the intensity to improve RIGHT NOW isn't there, but that's okay. Track days "improve the breed" just like racing, but at a more leisurely pace.

From the POV of a TD instructor, I've learned that 99% of riders are receptive to input. These riders are able to put their ego aside so they can improve their riding. These are my kinda people. Those who don't want to hear what we have to say are usually destined for an uphill climb. Fortunately, the vast majority of participants are the receptive type.
