Re: The Great R6 Tribute

It's easy to see why the bike cought fire, but the more important thing to note is why the track crew didn't have the proper fire supression equipment?

Good Lord, how many fire extinguishers did they empty on that thing? Hope that wasn't the first session of the track day.

Re: The Great R6 Tribute

yeah, it doesn't take much to completely ruin things due to fire...

ever seen a car burnt to a crisp? pretty impressive stuff.

^ is the 500hp 5.0L v10 audi R8 undergoing testing at the Ring -- it caught fire and is now 100% destroyed

I saw a car on fire on 93N on my way up to a track day last summer. It was burning real good and billowing black smoke.

Re: The Great R6 Tribute

they were using dry-chem extinguishers, you can see the chemicals blowing away mixed in with the black smoke. They should have been using AFFF (aqueous film forming foam) exinguishers. Best type of extinguisher there is for liquid/fuel fires. Aircraft Firefighters use it

Re: The Great R6 Tribute

they basically just blew the fire around all over the place. If the fire was to go out, it would have been just a coincidence.

Re: The Great R6 Tribute

I would bet that it depends on the event thats running. Karts, Bikes and SCCA cars probly wont have the full fire teams standing by like Nascar, Modifieds or Trucks.
I'm sure there's some sort of SOP that they have to abide by. Its all volunteer up there right? Paramedics and Fire?

I have some experience in this as I watched one of my bikes burn to the groud (RIP). The police report stated "all remains were removed from the scene with the exception of some metal pieces that were welded to the pavement."

Yeah it'll ruin a few things. I pretty much watched it melt to the ground, not a good day!

Re: The Great R6 Tribute

I'm surprised no one noticed the two motorcyclists that STOPPED to the left of the bike, causing ANOTHER bike to go down in the dirt moments after the R6 went down.... That's why you DON'T STOP ON THE TRACK for a downed rider.

If you wanna watch a bike go up in flames, set fire to your own, don't stop on the track & watch someone else's

That was pretty awesome And you're right, Paul... it WAS one of those mohawk thingies

Was the fire on the Northbound side of 93 or the Southbound side??? Because I drove right past a minivan on fire billowing black smoke on the southbound side while I was traveling southbound on 93 around exit 3 in NH... It was cool. It must have just happened when I went past because emergency crews had no yet arrived.
