in the search for a new bike, i'm really considering a yamaha fz6...

it just seems like it fits all the qualities i'm looking for in a bike and it looks pretty bad ass as well

what are your thoughts? annnnd does anybody have suggestions on where i could find a good yamaha dealer in either the amherst, ma area or the northshore, ma areas?!

The FZ6 looks like a fun all around bike. The Honda 599 would also be a cool next bike along the same lines.

Re: so i think i've finally found the one...

yeah, if you remember when i was in the market, it was down between an FZ6 and the SV. when i went, i just didn't really like the feel of the FZ (or at least the SV seemed to fit me perfect ergonomically), and it was before the S2 (i think it's called) with the good analog tach, rather than the silly ring LED one.

i'd say go sit on your options, the decision might be easier than you think. also, as tim mentioned, a 599 might be pretty cool too, though they are a bit more expensive and can be considerably tougher to find. another option is the EX650R. if you're considering a D675, then a) you might want to increase which bikes you're looking at, since the Triumph is a few class-rungs higher up the motorcycle ladder, and b) check out a Street Triple (not Speed).

on the other hand, if you do wind up with an FZ6, i might be required to ride it and see what, if anything, i'm missing.

and SBN has an ABSURDLY active FZ6 sub-forum -- not sure if you saw that back when i was doing my research.

let me know if you want/need any help w/ research or looking at bikes, or if you're going to a triumph dealer (i think there's one up by Salem State, but there are probably others around)

Re: so i think i've finally found the one...

I did just buy an 07 FZ6 S2 in December and i am very pleased with the purchase, The bike has plenty of power, all the agility that is expected from a sport bike, and it is a Yamaha, so it starts off better.

If you check out Yamaha FZ6 Forum Community and search around, there are a ton of threads that have comparisons and discussions with people considering all of the bikes that are previously mentioned in this thread. Good luck with the bike and if you can't find a dealer in Mass, I know of a guy that just bought his '08 at Freedom Cycle in Concord NH for $6418 OTD. Also if no dealers have one out you can sit on mine to see how it feels at some point. If you have a good history on bikes i'lll et you test ride it when the weather gets a bit better too.

I ride a FZ6 and enjoy it. It has a comfortable seating position for longer rides but you can still tuck down into it for spirited riding. The power range seems kind of specific - it's OK down low and good up high but there is a bit of a weak spot in the middle. I put new pipes and a PCIII in it this winter so hopefully that will help a bit.

what year is your FZ? With the redesign in 07 they changes the FI map from the factory to improve the midrange as well, I am still in the break in so i haven't played with the full RPM range but it seems good and smooth up to 8k

Re: so i think i've finally found the one...

It's an '05 FZ6. I'm glad they did something about the power range. It really doesn't bother me as an owner - I know where I need to keep the revs to be able to get the punch. I just get tired of telling people when I let them ride it "make sure you get it above 7,500". Maybe I'll just stop letting people ride it...

Anyone in MA with an FZ6 care to tell me what they pay in insurance per year? I'm waiting on a quote from my agent, and would like to know what other companies are charging.
