Riding to Work, 2008

Just thought it might be interesting to tally your total number of days ridden to work. With gas prices and traffic the way they are, having some concrete evidence might help us in the future.

0 and will probably remain in the single digits for the summer. It takes me less time to get to work than it does to pull the bike out of the garage and get my gear on.

I work at home....but if you want to include:

- Ride DURING work

That would be different. Of course, I would never admit in a public forum to ever doing that....so put me down for 0 !!!

Oh ok,
My ride is about 8 miles one way and I get only 30-35 MPG on my 600RR.
But that's better than the 15-20 MPG I get on my Honda Odyssey.
Of course the subway and my pedal bike are always options too.

I work at home, so I look forward to riding away from work, or for outside errands. Once so far, maybe again today?

PS: the SV with slip-on can and no rejetting gets 50+ mpg

9 thus far this year. Short commute though. Only Goffstown to Hudson.

Money saved is only ~$5.50 a day in gas over the Mitsu Evo cager I have. Snow tomorrow. Back to the Evo.

So far: 0

(Still trying to find parking near work (John Hancock tower). Anyone know if any of the northern MBTA stations are decent, safety wise for parking in? (Malden, Oak, Wellington, Alewife?) would prefer my bike be there still at the end of the day

1 Today
5:30am report Rockland 30.8 deg when I left the house. Medford = 27deg for 27 miles one way commute. On a 929 with not a lot of wind protection.

22 miles, left the house this morning and it was in the mid 20's. On a KLR with a removed front fairing. Brrr!

Still worth it.

I calculated out my costs for the KLR. At $4.00 a gallon, including reg and insurance for the year, it costs me about $10 a week to commute on the bike all 5 days both ways. This doesn't include maintenance, but hey, still not bad.

Gotta love $54 a YEAR for insurance.

I'll Edit my top post every time I ride in. I think it would be interesting to see how many days I commute by the end of the season.

Re: Riding to Work, 2008

My commute is a whopping 1.8 miles and my plan is to ride the bicycle this year. Of course I will walk a few days here and there but most of the time I take the truck. I did think about getting a cheap scooter and doing the squidly thing (and 90 mpg) but decided not to waste the money.

Re: Riding to Work, 2008

I started yesterday using the DR 650 so just a couple of days so far... put $9.40 in gas in it this morning to FILL IT...! This is a recent purchase so I am not sure of the mileage but I am hoping for high 40's, maybe 50 MPG... I hope I didn't kill the economy by installing the Dyna Jet kit and airbox mod... We'll see. Either way it will be better than that tank of a truck I drive all Winter.

My commute is forty (40) miles round trip so I do save a hell of a lot of money on just the commute... I call it getting a raise...
As soon as the roads are less sand covered I'll get the new Guzzi out... C-a-n-n-o-t- Wait... !

I will ride now until it snows next Fall and too get the "WTF" questions at work... I actually get sick of hearing it and have taken to calling out a number for each person that asks if I rode today as I come into the office... Just call out a number and wait for the "Huh...?" Funny... Some get it, some don't...

One thing I do not do is look at the temp, don't care, if there is no snow, we ride. Gerbing's heated liner and gloves, the new Guzzi also has heated grips... Gotta dress for it.

Cheers,
Rob in Maine...

Re: Riding to Work, 2008

0 times for me so far, probably 0 for the season.
The cost for me to commute the 38 mile round trip to and from work is $0
If I ride my bike, I gotta spend the cash for fuel and maintenance...more beer money for me
