pop goes the weasel

was pitched off the buell by a 120+ mph tankslapper on the highway sat morning. just got in from 3 days in the hospital. not sure what caused the slapper. i tried everything to save it. accelarating. light on the bars. nothing worked. bike has damper but i didn't think to try to reach down and crank the setting to max. i was wearing full gear but still managed to crush/mangle my right foot. broke 4 bones in the foot and 1 in the ankle. right now it's held together by a bunch of pins and external rods. hurts like a bitch. slide seemed to last for days but my leathers held up great (i love my vanson). gloves and boots are wasted. helmet has on tiny nick on the chin bar, my head really didn't hit the ground. more info/pictures to come in sometime tommorrow.

looks like i won't be racing again this season either. fucking sucks.

Re: pop goes the weasel

Damn that is just f-ing nuts. There are things you worry about on the road and things you don't. A tank slapper on they highway....you had a damper.....probably not something you even considered.

That sucks! Good for you being all eared up though. I am surprised, my 8 year old Buell has never had head shake or hi speed wobble. I never thought I needed a damper on it, thanks for the wake up call!

I am sorry to hear it. Are you back to work now? Three days is a long time. Thy don't keep you in there for nothing now.

Can I ask what was happening? Was the bike leaned over, were you accelerating decelerating when it started? What was going on?

Really, hope you're doing well.

Adam

This sucks.

I know how much you were looking forward to this season. Heal up brother. Glad to see the outcome was not worse than just the ankle.

Wow...good thing you were only going 120+

I don't mind crashing if I learn something from it but I had a highside at Summit Point last spring that's still a mystery. Those are the ones that piss me off.

Heal up...post pics.

Sucks to hear about this Aaron, hope I get to see you at the track this summer anyhow. Heal up and do what the docs say with the external fixator as far as keeping it clean.

Re: pop goes the weasel

Sorry to hear that dude. It sounds like you got very lucky though. Sometimes I think higher speeds hurt less. That is as long as you dont hit anything. Heres to a quick recovery.

P.S. Broken ankles suck. I broke both bones on mine 15 years ago and I still limp every morning. Oh and colr or rainy weather hurt too.
