More populated? I hold it less than 1 mile from the largest city in the state.

think about the state for a minute......

maybe if you called it hippie/motorcycle night you would get a better turnout, granted you would have to deal with hack circles and smelly hippies but you would definitely get more people to show up.

I may try and make it up there for a bike night this summer.........

For me, it's just the fact they must have loved the statments made by those two idiots. That right there is the personification of the sportbike community as far as the non-motorcycling public is concerned: dumb looking/sounding kids with fast bikes putting your grandmother at risk on the roads!

Of course, we already knew that anyway... lol

Even if you stop the dealerships from legally selling them bikes it's just like guns.. if you're that far outside the law you'll get the bike anyway.

I am all for letting the roads deteriorate naturally. Maybe even drop on a couple of logs and rocks to help them along....

Re: 50+ Law in Florida, YouTube of Sportbiker Interviews from Fox 13 News in Tampa

My wife just had an interesting point. But before I lay it out I need to set it up. She's from Brazil (yeah, south america) where she lived the mojority of her life. She moved to the USA and lived in Miami for a year as we were dating before she moved up here. Her point was that Florida needs some strict motorcycle enforcement because there is a large latain/south american population.

No, its not a racist point of view. If you've ever been to a south american city and seen how they ride motorcycles you would understand. They are out of control, riding in between lanes and passing cars in between lanes at highway speed is typical. Riding between lanes at 30 mph in traffic jams. Weaving in and out constantly. If a car gets in your way and you can't pass you kick the mirrors off. Also, there is a hell of a lot more motorcycles on the road because they are cheaper, they use less gas, and gas is more expensive. I was totally shocked to see how they drive, all squidly with flip flops and such.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that aspect.

Re: 50+ Law in Florida, YouTube of Sportbiker Interviews from Fox 13 News in Tampa

I wouldn't agree or disagree with this as I don't want to make a generalization, but I do have to say that I have yet to meet one of them who can ride properly without endangering everyone around. I have refused quite a few requests on myspace group from them who send me a message saying something like "hey, -insert name- here! I'd like to be added! I ride a crotch rocket and luv 2 go 140 mph+ and do long stand up wheelies on highways! Let me know when is the next ride!!" Yeah...like the hell I will...

Sometimes they will say more stuff like "my bros and I ride the most badasses fastest bikes and we often run from cops 'cause we luv 2 go 2 fast" and other choice words of the sort...

I have been *trying* to talk some sense in some of them, their answers? The track is for pussies, we love the streets and highways, we can't stunt at the track and do "are thing" (our thing), and don't even get me started what they think about gear..."it's not cool, yo" When you try to bring up that their loved ones would be deeply sadden if they were to get hurt or killed, or even if THEY would kill someone else because of their riding style, they answer something stupid such as "they know this what I do yo, they know this what most important to "me".

Well... "yo fuck yoself" I'm not wasting my breath on trying to knock some sense in them anymore.

This one here was the latest one: MySpace.com - 1BADASSBUSA - 33 - Male - FALL RIVER, Massachusetts - www.myspace.com/masslawya
He claims building one of the 5 fastest bikes IN DA WORLD YO. He says he go up to 200 mph on highways. He also states that he's one of the best riders out there and that NO ONE can go faster than him. bla bla bla. And he actually believes everything he says...(nope, he didn't make it on myspace either after I had a ridiculous dicussion with him that made me cry my eyeballs for wasting my time on this troll)

Here's the problem. One asswipe like this can create the perception that all sport bike riders are dangerous, etc. We struggle mightily here between the 'Nazi' and the 'Squid' trying to find a balance where we can lead gently by example.

I think that is great and wish I were better at the 'gentle' approach! But I have sort of given up trying to change the hardcore asswipes and work even harder to try and change the perception, one cager at a time, that we are ALL asswipes. I do this by being extra friendly and courteous. I will still make passes that are sometimes 'extra-legal' but I always try and look over and give the friendliest wave I know how. I try and smile at people in parking lots when I take of my helmet. Its amazing how old people and kids respond. They want to like us...we represent freedom, adventure, all sorts of romantic stuff. All we have to do is give 'em a chance.

So, is it possible for a bunch of us who care and love the sport to help undo the damage of the few? Don't know...but I try.

And what Degsy is up to is fantastic. Getting the younger folks to help with this will go a long way to protecting our freedom to ride!

You think? Mmpf...he was telling me that he cannot stand people bragging about their bikes and stuff, I flat out told him "well for a guy who hate braggers, you surely fit right in there with them!" Oh and...he's a lawyer man...he's the shit ya know. I actually have a hard time believing that one too. I told him I would never hire him if his skills in court are as badass as his riding skillzzzz.

Re: 50+ Law in Florida, YouTube of Sportbiker Interviews from Fox 13 News in Tampa

Good post DucDave...I try to be very friendly too with cagers...wave at kids, etc. and you know I have to say...so far most of the time when I ride alone around town, people are in general very respectful, most of them keep good distance behind me, etc. I don't ride like an ass in town, I respect speed limits (maybe 5 over...) I always signal my intentions, I keep my distance from cars in front of me...I think people are more willing to respect YOU, when they see that you respect others around you. Maybe it's just the ponytail coming out of my helmet...I don't know.

Instead of preaching, let us work on eradicating stereotypes. 'Tis nobler.

All I really want to say is that those people who treat our wonderful sportbike technology as an entitlement to frighten others on the road with their antics...even if a minority...have brought this kind of legislation upon us.

It really pisses me off that the few can taint the sport for all of us. Remember, everytime you are in mixed company your behavior speaks for us all...
ive ridden with you Dave....
50 over isnt out of reach for you either. youre no saint. you might not run the first time but after your $1k fine you certainly arent gonna stop the 2nd time to recieve the $2500 fine.

...you're right. I am no saint...

And when I do that I am contributing to the problem...not the solution. And its wrong. Period. And I shouldnt do it. I can be an asshole....the very kind I am complaining about so that makes me a hypocrite too....

I am trying. Progress, not perfection...????!!!!

I don't know about the stopping part. I really don't see myself trying to escape a cop who is out to stop me. It would be pretty stupid for all kinds of reasons...not the least of which is what I usually wear.

If I find myself riding under laws like that AND I haven't matured enought to stay under the radar, I might pack it in and do a LOT of track days.
