Common motard?Forgive my ignorance. What is the most common bike that is used as a motard? Every time I see a pic of a motard it doesn't look like just a dirt bile with road tires and lights on it... |

Re: Common motard?Yamaha 450 or Honda CRF 450 are the most common. Then there are the KTMs pretty close behind. |

Re: Common motard? On the street I'd say you probably see a DRZ 400SM the most. That ones has been out the longest and is the cheapest (right?) |

Re: Common motard?looks awesome, but have had HUGE quality issues from factory and difficult if not impossible service / warranty claims in the past.... just read up at Supermoto Junkie - Powered by vBulletin... almost bought one last summer. One thing to keep in mind... is these are not sportbikes.. they require much more maint. etc. DRZ is the least expensive and least maint.... but also the heaviest and slowest. |

Re: Common motard?Yup, and that would be a real ticking time bomb ![]() IMO it depends where you're at as to what the most common Motard would be. It seems to be a equal mix of Orange, Blue, red and yellow at the LRRS races. The streets around here seems to be the DRZ...but head to Deals Gap and you'll see 5 KTM's for every other brand Motard. For all around use, it's hard to beet a KTM ![]() |

Re: Common motard? How's a KTM with motard wheels do on a 25 mile highway ride??? p.s. we had some of those Aprilias at our trackdays. I don't know of any that lasted a full day... |

Re: Common motard? There's obviously some wind buffeting at speed but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. My EXC with stock gearing has no problem keeping a 70mph pace with the engine at a reasonable rev. The bike will do 100mph. I don't know if I'd commute every day 25 miles on the highway though? I've ridden a couple 250 mile days on it in the past with no issues...plus it gets a little better than 60mpg on the road ![]() |
