Ive done some off road back home with Tony and a few ventures on my own. Out here I realize how far I am away from everything and need to make time and not off road and go slower. Plus I dont want to temp fate with the bike. I have seen many dirt roads that would have been great to explore though. I wish I didnt have to work for a year.

Re: Cross Country Trip

Okay looks like I am 2 days behind on updates. Yesteday was uneventful. Going through South Dakota is boring. Its mostly stright and flat until you get to the black hills at the end. I was cutting it close on fuel before Sturgus. I was 10 mile from there and had to switch to reserve at 189. Luckily I made it to fill up without incident.

Now today was my best day on this trip so far. I went to Rushmore this morning and then started heading towards Yellowstone. Right now I am in Cody, WY. The ride through the mountains was awesome. The pics will speak for themselves.

This section was really fun

And here is a short video

The header seems to be holding. Its an acorn nut so you cant get another nut on. Its been okay. I have been checking it and it seems to be holding. If it falls of again maybe I will try 2 regular nuts.

Re: Cross Country Trip

I rode the same roads from SD to Yellowstone in 01, the pics don't do it justice. Some of the gas pumps work at Yellowstone after the station is closed (card only). Hope you get down to the Tetons and Jackson Hole. The Milion Dollar Cowboy bar is pretty cool.

Hey KB Thanks,

That Tube is for Tools. I have my sockets in there and a tool roll up on the otherside. It works well. Already had to pull them out once.

Re: Cross Country Trip

Okay I am overdue for an update. I am having an awesome time. Since my last update I did Yellowstone which was awesome and then shot up to Great Falls Montana to see this girl Laura I knew up there. She did my laundy, took me out to eat and well...took care of me. It was kinda out of the way but it was worth it. After there I left her house and worked my way to Idaho. On the way there hit this horrible hail/snow storm. I ducked under a bridge and waited it out. After a half hour I came out to check and the snow was melting off the highway so I braved it out and after 25 miles the sun came out again. I grabbed lunch to warm up and headed on. I made it to somewhere in Idaho where I stayed for the night. The wind in Idaho was aweful. I hit my reserve at 159 one day, then I filled up again at 127 and it took 4.6 gallons. I was getting crappy mileage and the KLR didnt like the mountains and the wind. Power was down.

This morning was more wind and I head out. I made it to Oregon and felt like I did a lot of miles today. Havent added it up yet. I hit some nice scenery here too. Also got a visit from a nice trooper, no ticket for 79 in a 65. Here are some pics.

Re: Cross Country Trip

Today was a mild day. Only 350 miles logged. I spent the morning at Crater Lake. It was in the oposite direction of where I was going but it was well worth it. I have never seen anything so spectecular and if anyone is close, check it out.

Then I made it down toward CA. I could have pressed on but wanted to relax so I stopped in Eurika. It was a nice scenic day.

Re: Cross Country Trip

Hey Guys. I am in Santa Rosa California. I had a great day going through Avenue of the Giants, Rt 1 and Rt 20 back to 101. I got some more pics I will have to share later cause my laptop is put away.

Yesterday I went to get a tire put on at Northbay motorsports in Santa Rosa. When I called Wed to order the tire and make sure they had it ready for me when I came in they were all nice about it but when I got there on Friday they refused to help me out even though I was on the road and kinda needed it. So they called a place in Petaluma called G and B and they said that they would certainly fit me in. So I went there and he looked up my Warranty and said it expires on the 18th. So I mentioned the exhaust problem and they looked at it and saw that my gasket wasnt there. They called around and found the part, had it delivered and had me on my way this morning. They were so great to deal with and I recomend them to anyone on the west coast. You could tell that they cared more than the other place. They also put my oil usage issue in the computer so after my warranty expires there is a case on it if I want them to try and rebuild it. So that is good to know. Although they said Kawasaki says that a quart every thousand miles is exceptible. I dont think so but thats what they said. If I persue it they measure it, make you drive a certain distance and measure it again to see if they will tear into it. I am not sure it will make a difference.

Today we went to a few wineries (off the bike of course) and did some wine tasting. What a great time that was. My plan is to get back on the road Monday and interstate it back. I am hoping to be back for the weekend. This has been an awesome trip and the scenery I saw was spectacular. Everyone should do this at least once in thier life.

Crazy Bruce, just crazy!

Love the pictures. As someone who has never been out west, I think this really pushes me to get out there on two wheels.

Give us a full debriefing on how it went, what you would do differently, how the KLR did, etc.
