Re: my new ride! (=

CROSS POST:
Hit Route 2 today at lunch which was the first time I have been able to put it through the corners.

The power delivery is SO different! Its going to be a while before I get used to this I think. Still keeping it below the recommended 7000 RPM, but it really seems to want to wake up around 6k.

The bike just falls into the corners effortlessly. Its very easy to carve around the bends.

Suspension needs alittle adjustment I think. Its a little to "soft" for my liking right now. Compression and rebound seem a little slow as well, easy fixes though.

Since my last days of riding on the street I have become a complete sally ... which is good thing. I am happy just riding at a less than breakneck pace now (=

Is that turn 9, or coming up out of the bowl with the camera at a weird angle?

Ya but you have a Yamahahahaha so a Ninja 250 could have done the same

I think it's kind of funny that a bike Ducati made to emphasize street riding would be so good on the track. From what I have seen it is better than the 749 which was made for the track.

The Ducati is a lot of fun on the track. The power is great and smooth. It is effortless to throw around. It just flicks so easily from side to side.

The gearing is tall for loudon, so its an adjustment I'll make along with some rearsets.

Kates did his bounce bounce thing to help take out the pogoing that was happening at first through turns 3 and 10 ... and that helped a ton.

The brakes on it are awesome for sure .. night and day from the Honda (which I thought at one point had good brakes ... ha!)

I thought that was because I wear a "Live Strong" bracelet and have my collar popped when I ride?

Who said Ducati made the 848 for the street? The 848 is literally a 1098 with a smaller motor and the 1098 was designed for the track first and foremost. Ducati Superbikes are built with one goal in mind, winning races.

Yea those brakes are something else eh Jamie? The 1098's monobloc's are nutty...but man, 848 brakes are no slouch!

Um....Ducati did. I'll see if I can find the interview I read from one of the designer/engineers (I forget exactly who it was but it was someone that had a large part to do with the bike) Oh and the trans is different between the 848/1098. I think there was something else but I'm not 100% sure what it was.

Re: my new ride! (=

Yes yes yes there are more differences 848/1098 than just the engine size but I was paraphrasing. 98% of the bike is identical.

Hey what do I know

Found it:

Project engineer Marco Sairu says it best: "This bike is not linked to racing like the 749," Sairu said. "The 749 was designed to perform in racing, so it's not ideal for the street. For the 848 we wanted the best dynamics for the street, with no racing constraints."

Yeah I read that in the '08 street bike buyer guide. I thought everybody knew that about the 848

This is why you need to chain engineers to a desk, otherwise they go saying things about their products that marketing hasn't approved yet...

Re: my new ride! (=

I'm not going to sit here and wax poetic. Point was 1098-platform was designed to win World Superbike races. Did they maybe smooth one or two things out to make it more street friendly? Sure, you bet.

In reality the 999-platform is far more comfortable for street riding than the 1098-platform is. Bigtime. The 916-platform being the least street-friendly of them all.

Carry on!
