Rebuilt title, hows it work?OK so... I'm looking at this bike "the first owner had laid it down so there are a few scrapes, due to the expensive nature of the bike the insurance company totaled it. It now has a REBUILD TITLE" Now I've owned a few bikes, actually I've owned the exact same bike so I know it inside and out. It would take more than a "few scrapes" to total it even though it is a Ducati. My real question is how is a rebuilt title treated? Is there any extra cost/procedure to register it? The seller says that the next owner should have a clean title. How would that work? The bike looks nice and I'd love to own another Ducati, I think the selling price should be discounted because it has been totaled once. The current owner seems to have put some pride in making it look nice. Your thoughts here... |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?personally, i skip right over the ads on CL when i see salvage or rebuilt title. i'm sure there's some people that would see track bike potential out of them. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?as long as it gets a 'rebuild inspection' (not sure if thats what its called) by a reputable place that your insurance company allows, its ok |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?Is the frame/sub frame ok? Every state has there own laws or regulations on salvaged bikes. In New Hampshire you have to fix every thing that made the bike get totaled ie: why the insurance company scrapped it. Then have the NH state police inspect it at a cost ($40 or $60). I don't know about insurance company's, it might vary between different company's and there regulations. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?I went to the local PD, an officer came outside, inspected the bike real quick, took down the serial number, and sent me on my merry way. Don't remember how much it costed, or if I even paid anything. I don't remember if I went anywhere else for an inspection, probably...my mind can't remember much these days. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?I just dealt with this after I wrecked my R1 last month. I spoke with my insurance company and the RMV (42 minute wait on the phone The title will never be clear so he lied about that. It will always be a rebuilt title. As far as paying any extra to register it... I do not think so. He would have paid all the fees in obtaining the rebuilt title so right now, it can be registered normally. As for insurance, they will pay you less if anything happens to the bike unless you have it appraised privately prior to insuring it. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?well with 900ss the frame is pretty exposed so a scratch in that frame would most likely total it. if the wasnt a dummy he couldve had the ins. co. fix everything but the frame and it wouldnt have been totaled |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work? The only differance when registering a bike or car with a "rebuilt" title is that you only pay sales tax on what you say I just picked up a '01 Triumph Speed Triple with a rebuilt title for $1,200. You definatley should be paying alot less for a bike if it has a rebuilt title. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work?Do you really have to go to inspection by the PD when you're trying to register a Rebuilt title? I thought it was only on Salvage titles that they need to inspect to register it for a rebuilt title. |

Re: Rebuilt title, hows it work? When my (and TBOX's) old 900ss took a dive due to some wind, it added up to about $1300 in damage. Not even close to getting near the frame. They are fairly well protected. |
