Rider Down...

This is a post/forwarded message via my myspace...

For those of you who are not able to see the post from Greg Ricard Earlier, this is a FW of the updated situation with Chris!...

He is currently in ICU at Dartmouth Medical Center in Lebenon, NH after 6+ hours surgeries this morning...

We are all praying for him to make a full recovery after his 6+ hour surgeries that he had to endure.

If you're not sure what happened last night it is in the Union Leader front page and you can read about it below:

http://www.wmur.com/news/16612164/detail.html

UnionLeader.com - New Hampshire news - Deadly start for Bike Week - Sunday, Jun. 15, 2008

Our dear friend Chris Welcome who is a Lawtown Ryder got in a serious motorcycle accident tonight on Elm St. and was hit by a drunk driver....

A Red Mini Cooper went to do a U-turn in fron of North End Superette and without looking SMASHED into Chris sending him 75 ft down Elm St. with no helmet on...The driver was drunk and was arrested immeadiately that PRICK!!

Luckily he sustained no head injuries but has numerous broken bones and some damaged internal organs such as his bladder.

I only was able to speak with him for 20 secs this morning before surgery and he told me that he was ok but in a great deal of pain and may need screws and metal plates to support breaks in the various bones that were damaged from the impact. We hope that they don't have to do too much of that but we will just pray that he can walk and move his arms after all of this..

We love you dude and hope that you are doin better in a few hours and we will all come see you soon man!

Here's another update. Both of Chris' arms are broken, his wrists are broken, and he has a broken leg. He also has a broken pelvis. The one good thing in this situation though, besides him not having any head injuries, is that he also has no internal bleeding.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Chris/C-Dub, his friends, family and any fellow rider.

Stay strong and RIDE SAFE =)

Re: Rider Down...

Wishing you all the best Chris.

I personally think the driver should go to prison for life. Or maybe we put them on a motorcycle and force them to run into a car making a drunken u-turn.

Yes, condolences are generally used for someone who has suffered the ultimate loss. Occassionally you will see someone use it in this manner....but not often.

Even I went back to see if I misread the post or there was a passenger that was lost after reading 'condolences'.

Re: Rider Down...

hope he heals up.

im gonna be the dick.
witnesses say he had no helmet on. maybe he did maybe he didnt but since i know he a Lawtown ryder "if" he did have a helmet on it was one of those useless beanie helmets. and since he sustained no head injuries (which amazes me) that will always be the argument for not wearing a real helmet. the "helmets dont do shit" argument will run rampant through that group.
driver of the car was from Arkansas...so nothing will probably happen to him.

I would place a bet alot of us on here don't wear helmets everynow and then, so don't start the preaching on that crap. Knowone wants to hear it. I happen to have my helmet on when I crashed last fall and I ended up with a broken hip and not a scratch on the helmet. Thus I never even hit my head. Shall we argue that if I had no helmet it would have been the same. Who cares. A good friend to some of us is still in critical condition in the hospital and could be there a long time with major problems, helmets are irrelivent at this point in time. What happen happen, you want to discuss helemts start another thread for it.

I think you'd be wrong. I can count the number of times I've ridden without one on one hand. Most of the riders here are from MA, not NH. Its not an option for them.

That be true, butt that is not your option. Given the option you have different opinions. Don't judge people, we make our own choices.

Re: Rider Down...

Update on Chris

Hey fellow riders and all friends,

currently Chris is still in critical condition after I spoke to his Mom this morning...They tubed him for his breathing was a little off for some reason which is def the most annoying thing to him I would imagine

Currently he has sustained broken arms, especially the right arm which is very bad and a broken leg and pelvis...

Currently it is requested that NO ONE visit for they are concerned with any type of spinal movement and if he gets agitated trying to talk to people he may disrupt something. Also I think because of how unstabile he is in ICU, only IMMEDIATE FAMILY would be allowed to visit but I would still steer clear for the next few per his Mom's request.
