Swansea —

A Dighton man was seriously injured Sunday in the collision of his motorcycle and a car on Route 136 at the westbound Interstate 195 ramps.
Police said Gregory Reynolds, 24, was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, with serious injuries, after the 1:30 p.m. crash.
The other motorist, James Viera, 75, of Tiverton, was not injured, police said.
A preliminary investigation by Sgt. Richard Roussel, an accident reconstructionist, indicated that Viera was turning his 2004 Chevrolet Impala left from the off-ramp and Reynolds was operating his 2003 Suzuki motorcycle north when the collision occurred, police stated.
Officers were assisted at the scene by the Swansea Ambulance Corps, Swansea, Warren and Rehoboth fire departments and state police detectives.
I have been up that way a million times... I would venture a guess that the driver didn't come to a complete stop before making his left (south) on 136. Seen that a million times...or assumed the bike was going to enter the highway... or just didn't see him.

the video showed a pretty seriously mangled Suzuki.

Re: another rider down

I was at the DMV last wednesday and there was an older gentleman there trying to pass his eye test. They greeted him by name and when he walked up to the front desk he proudly proclaimed " I picked up my new glasses. I'll be able to see now!"

Nope. Failed the vision test in the machine.. twice. Brought into the side room for a go at the wall chart... failed that too.

They refused to renew his license... but he still climbed behind the wheel of his crown vic and drove out of there. Gotta love it.

Re: another rider down

I was at the RMV years ago and this old guy walks in to renew his license. They had two of the poles that hold up the ropes for lines over next to a wall just stored out of the way. That guy walked up and stood between them and looked straight at a wall 6" from him for like 5 minutes. A trooper finally came out and asked him to come out back. Hopefully they didn't renew him.

It does suck for the elderly to have your license revoked. Theres no public transport to take. You lose your license you lose your connection to the outside world.

i wont say old people... i'll say this instead... incompetantly incomprehensible people. Basically absent minded fools or alzheimers runner-ups or people with certain handicaps (visioin, motor skills, ability to move your foot from gas to brake quickly enough)

All are fundamental necessities to operate a motor vehicle safely and properly.
