Lime Rock Racetrack?? Motorcycle friendly?

There was a big article in the Providence Journal about the Lime Rock Racetrack "re-opening". I actually had never heard of it, its in Lincoln, RI. There was no mention of track days for two wheeled vehicles, only cages. Anyone here have more info? A track in southern New England would be AWESOME

It's in CT. They don't run bikes there. It's a pretty track, and memorial day h weekend there's a nice vintage car race. Country club - esque.

Think they used to allow motorcycle testing there... & maybe some vintage events... but it's not a race track I'd wanna go full tilt at, that's for sure.

This argument has been had before.......but for the record, I dont think its any worse than NHIS, and will likely be better following the reconstruction.

But I dont believe they'll be doing any more bike days, and from what I've heard, they are going to membership business model.

Well go tell them that.

While you're at it, tell them to add run-off & a few more left handers since there's only 1. I'm sure they'd accomodate you

I guess Im not expert, but why dont they build all tracks with runoff period. I mean even if I raced cars Id rather hit sand than a wall, and it makes no sense to put walls so close to the track. Like I said Im no expert maybe someone has more insight

Re: Lime Rock Racetrack?? Motorcycle friendly?

I was at Lime Rock last Wednesday with motorcycles doing a Ducati event. The Lime Rock staff aren't motorcycle-unfriendly, it's just their track isn't race-safe.

They did used to do some noontime 'test' session where local motorcycle riders could come 'test' on the track for 45 minutes, but the local residents got all huffy. They don't like 'mean, loud, dirty bikers' coming into THEIR neighborhoods.

One of the Upright Citizen's Brigade actually came in Wed to take photos and 'document' the motorcycles at Lime Rock. She heard there were bikes there and she came a running!! We were teaching a bunch of noobs to ride, no-one going over 15 mph, and there she is snapping photos

They do have a nice little autocross track that would be VERY Supermoto-fun. I mentioned the idea to them a few times and they seemed to like the option of discussing more. That'd be fun.

Re: Lime Rock Racetrack?? Motorcycle friendly?

been there a couple times. Limerock wasn't made for bikes... they'd have to do some reconstruction to make it safe... like replace the guard rails with some padded walls... put an actual fence between the track and the spectators, etc.

Re: Lime Rock Racetrack?? Motorcycle friendly?

There is a law on the books that Lime Rock can not have motorcycle races. The new track lay out allows the original "traditional" configuration and a combination of modifications to the track.
1) a new pit in location is being added before the main straight.
2) the esses are being modified with a different entrance to the no name straight, plus more run out.
3) a different sharper and steeper entrance turn is being added at the end of the no name straight onto the up hill section.
4) The earthen berm is being taken out of the west bend and a wider chicane like turn is being added, and oh yeah they are adding run out.
5) they are adding more run out (paved) to the outside of the diving turn (there seems to be a trend here) and also to the inside of the track where you enter the main straight. I personally have watched many a car loose the back end there and end up slamming the berm on the INSIDE of the track, scary!

Overall the repave and change in lay out will improve the safety, the flexibility of coarse choice and pavement condition. It would be a blast to ride on a bike trust me! The old track was fun, but like what was said already not conducive to bikes. This new lay out is certainly more motorcycle friendly than previously(I would say safer than NHMS for sure). Maybe they will fight to change the law (or ruling whatever it is) so bikes can be allowed.

Limerock is fun, that tree by the entrance to the main straight if you early apex is not

Considering the sell out Barber is (with the whole membership bullshit) and the fact you STILL can't run on Sunday, I doubt bikes will be running their anytime soon.

I am not sure but I believe it is now gone due to the new pit entrance location.

Re: Lime Rock Racetrack?? Motorcycle friendly?

I've been going to LRP for years, and like every said it isn't safe for bikes at race speed. The car racing there is awesome because you can get so close because there are little to no runoffs. And there doesn't need to be a fence between the track and the spectators because the track is always on a lower plane than the fan area (except around the paddock area aka the swamp). The autocross track is a great place to run fiddies, there are always a bunch of us there on the big camping race weekends, it usually turns into a little race. The changes they are making to it are exciting and I can't wait to get down there on ALMS weekend to see the difference first hand. If anyone has an interest in auto racing, or just wants to party, come down, camp out in the infield for the weekend, its a great time. Just look for the white and red saab 9000's or an asshole on a KTM 50

It's a beautiful track and facility. I did an open-wheel race school there a few years ago... Those little F-2000s go like stink!

I've always wanted to do that, how much did it cost?
