It's not that it can't get me into trouble by any means, but I'm hoping the sport touring ergos will allow me to enjoy the ride a bit more without feeling like I need to wick it up quite as much... Really I was just looking for something I could ride to work a few days a week, take trips to the beach with the girlfriend, maybe go on a few mild scenic group rides...And the VFR fits the bill quite nicely. Plus, I gear driven cams. |

Re: I'm back, bitches!Well, I picked it up yesterday at 6pm, took Kate on it for a little ride, unfortunately we had to be in nashua at 7:30pm so I didn't get to explore much...But first impressions... This little piggy definitely had roast beef, it ain't no race rep that's for sure. At low speeds you can definitely feel the weight, and it's not down low like a modern sportbike, feels a lot like my old ZX6E, get the thing a bit tilted while parking and you can definitely feel the 100 pounds it's got on a modern sportbike. Give it a little gas and it really starts to shine though, engine is just butter smooth and just pulls nice and clean...no turbo lag feeling like on a 600 I-4, no twitchiness down low like a big twin...it just pulls nice and linear with the most progressive powerband I've ever had the pleasure to ride... Definitely takes a bit more oomph to get it turned into a corner than the race reps, again it's too be expected, an extra hundred pounds and a lot more trail will do that...but it repays the extra effort with a sure feeling underfoot, no feelings of twitchiness if you hit a little bump in the road in a curve, this bike holds it's line very well and won't do anything you don't tell it to. Ergos are just what you'd expect on a sport tourer: relatively upright seating position, pegs are set reasonably low and forward to prevent leg cramps...fairing doesn't feel quite as big as I expected but I was also staying fairly upright most of the time with Kate on the back, I'm pretty sure I could tuck nicely under the screen if I needed to... Overall exactly what I was looking for, a sporty bike without being a balls-to-the-wall sportbike, plenty of power and handling to get you in trouble without the ergos that make you feel the need to get the blood pumping just to forget what a torture rack you're riding...the perfect "street bike" to me...still on the fence about whether I want to take it on the track at all, it would be fun to get a bike with a little power back out there but quite a departure from what I'm used to riding at NHMS (lightweight, quick steering) and I'm not going to set any lap records on a 500lb streetbike with street tires... |
