Brake Reservoir sock?

What's the story with these cloth strechy covers on peoples front brake reservoirs. I am thinking it is to catch any spill during a crash?

Re: Brake Reservoir sock?

ive read that they originated from racers that used them on the track to absorb brake fluid that seems out from under the cap during high speeds. it prevented it from getting flung onto their bike and face shields.

then you have the "sunlight breaks it down" explanation

Re: Brake Reservoir sock?

I was advised to get a cheap sweat band for my front brake reservoir to soak up any leaks/etc on my track machine.

purple is the heavy duty stuff? I don't know loctite colors too well.

Nope, no interest in the cost of the new lower piece. Hard to see in the avatar pic, but that "hole" doesn't look that bad....and mine is filled with a titanium mid-pipe that looks pretty good blued up

UV light can cause the fluid life to be decreased, from what I've been told. I threw one like this I had lying around on my front:

It's so your fluid doesn't get cold. Keeps it nice & cozy.

Bah, it does nothing except add "bling."

At least, that's why I put a Pazzo one on my bike.

meh i dont know about that - i have it on to stop brake fluid from going everywhere in a crash - it works, yes ive gotten the bike to land on it

although, truth be told, the brake fluid leaking everwhere was the least of my worries...

The track is magical. Somehow when I crashed I broke off HALF my windscreen, but didnt scratch anything within a foot of the screen.
