At the very least this will be interesting to see how (if?) it develops. As I understand it, the AMA/DMG deal isn't a totally done thing, but it's pretty close. Maybe this will demonstrate to DMG that they aren't the only possible game in town? Maybe they'll consider tweaking some of their ideas? (seems like wishful thinking......)

Re: Thank god, keeping the fingers crossed

my question is....how does the nascar series do such a good job of balancing the factory/sponsor ordeal? I understand that factory teams want to be on top....but at the same time thats how we ended up with the matt/ben show which isn't any fun. Factorys are a huge part of nascar, yet the sponsors are as well. Why can't motorcycle racing end up in such a situation? I'm all for privateer teams battling for the top spots on a fair field, with factory support.

mind you...i'm not a nascar fan, but I still pay enough attention to it to understand roughly whats going on.....racing is racing

I think the manufacturers are mostly trying to strengthen their negotiating position and hoping to avoid a separate series. It would make much more sense for them to meet in the middle, but some egos would have to be put on hold. Let's hope they paid attention to Indycar vs. CART/Champ Car taking both series into the toilet.

Re: Thank god, keeping the fingers crossed

the manufactures had it all set with the ama. suzuki owns superbike, honda owns FX, kawi owns 600 super sport. yamaha owned superstock.

everyone got to advertise thier bike as a winner....even if it was boring as hell. most people can't tell the diff between any of the classes at a glance.

manufacturers are looking out for themselves and thier advertising dollars not the fans of motorsports. they could care less if anyone shows up to the races. as long as they get to run that full page ad in cycleworld showing thier bike on the podium.
