Re: 88 ZX6 / 600R?In 88, the ZX6 was the race-replica, while the 600R was a geared down street bike version. Almost like the difference between a Suzuki GSX-R and a Katana. EDIT: Actually the first year of the ZX-6 was 1990, so anyone calling a 1988 Ninja 600R a ZX-6 is mislabeling it. But what I said above still stands about the 1990. |

Re: 88 ZX6 / 600R?The "ninja 600r" started out as the ZX600A, somewhere like 1985 or something. Your 88 is either an A or a B I think. Then you had the zx600C, ZX600D, and ZX600E/F, they were known as GPZ600s in europe. The ZX600G was in 1998, they kept making the ZX600E though until 2001, then in 2001 they started calling it the ZZR-600. 2000-2002 were the ZX600J/H models, then they came out with the 636 (ZX6R) and the race legal ZX6RR in 03 and the old ZX600J was given the ZZR-600 moniker previously held by the ZX600E. Confused yet? |

Re: 88 ZX6 / 600R?Quote:
the ZX-6 was the marketing name for the model # ZX600D the Ninja 600R was the marketing name for the model # ZX600C the ZX600C was the original middleweight Ninja sportbike and made a respectable 70bhp for its day, but by today's conventions is underpowered, doesn't handle well (and has a steel-tube frame), slow, isn't geared well, and doesn't get around the track all that fast...I had one for my first street bike 5 years ago people that list ANY 600cc Ninja before 1990 either don't know that it's NOT a ZX-6 or are just trying to sell it to someone that doesn't know the difference |

Re: 88 ZX6 / 600R?thats great! i def could use some parts lol. mine isnt running, read my other thread... yeah i think my bike is a ZX600C. I bought a fuel tank off of ebay a long time ago and when i got it found out that it didnt fit my bike whatsoever. It does look similar so im thinking its for a 250 or earlier model. it was listed as an 87 ZX6 to 91 ZX6 ninja. I wont lie, i dont know too much about bikes. Thanks for all the reply's guys! ill keep in touch for parts |
