Okay kids, here's the deal. I've always worn my Matterhorn model 1949 combat boots ( The Official Corcoran and Matterhorn Footwear Website: 1949: Mens10” Waterproof Leather Insulated Field Boot ) for riding because they're sturdy, comfortable, and fairly waterproof. But my current pair of Matterhorns are finally falling apart after years of faithful service, so it's time to get a new pair of boots.

I may just go with a new pair of Matterhorns, but thought I'd get people's opinions here. I'm not interested in race-style boots because I don't race and don't even ride a sportbike (unless you count a cafe racer as a sportbike). I need a boot that will work equally well for blasting Vermont back roads/twisties, exploring dirt roads and the occasional trail, walking around off the bike, and wearing all day long when touring.

I've considered picking up a pair of supermoto boots, or even these:

But I wonder whether any of these options would really be any better than the tried-and-tested Matterhorns.

I wear the older model of these A* boots:

they are super comfortable for me, easy to get in and out of, and probably the only part of my gear that is truly waterproof. my only negative is that the tread is basically like a loafer.

If you don't plan on doing a ton of walking, these might be a good choice.

I think the aerostitch combat boots look awesome. Especially on a cafe racer style bike- they're very fitting. One of my USCRA buddies rocks them out on his classic beemer- I wish they had a more feminine version for me!

How do you figure? All the Oxtars I've seen (TCX now, not sure why they changed their name) are $180+. And the Matterhorns are about $180 too (really thick leather, excellent quality, Gore-Tex lining, made in the USA).

If you fit one of the sizes they have left, both NewEnough and MotorcycleCloseouts have Oxtar-branded boots on clearance in the $100-120 range. The ones I saw (including the ones I ordered from NewEnough) were mostly race-style, though, and the pair I got is not particularly great for hiking around off the bike--they have very little support fore/aft in the ankle despite having substantial lateral support, which feels really weird to me on hills and such. I would expect the other, similarly-styled Oxtars to be similar.

(Personally, I'm quite happy with mine; I'd prefer it if they didn't look like race boots, but they've held up well so far, even after a pavement-surfing incident.)
