Re: Drinking & riding

Half past 5 I'm in the pub
Six O'clock It's home for grub
Eight O'clock I'm back to the bar
Sod the walk I'll take the car

Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun
Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun

In the motor off you go
Not too fast and not too slow
Keep your head and keep your cool
Must avoid that rightful pull

Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun
Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun

As you meander down the road
Don't forget your highway code
See the spot and take your pick
Out of the car or to be sick!

Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun
Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun
Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun
Knock it back
Have another one
Drinking and driving is so much fun

Re: Drinking & riding

Camel back filled with a box of wine. I prefer beer but, I kept getting to much foam in the drinking tube.

Best part is when I'm wearing a tank top, short, sandals and my Ray Ban's, it just looks like a back pack. The Popo haven't got a clue!!

I never drink and ride.
I do plan on drinking an obscene amount of RedHook ESB today, but I will not be leaving the couch.

safety is the least of my concerns, more about what it costs to get caught

Re: Drinking & riding

I agree that drinking and driving along with riding are all bad ideas. I don't like the blanket statement about riding with drugs in your system. Certian drugs are far worse than others. Not all of the illegal drugs impair riding ability. I happen to know a stunt crew were the few guys that can do circle wheelies get fairly stoned before they practice and compete. I am not recommending this, but they are all still alive in one piece and better than ever at stunt riding while not being squids:-)

Re: Drinking & riding

Well, my last say is, NHTSA determined a long time ago that alcohol becomes a factor in a statistical sense at .05-.08 in auto accidents. Which is why most states and Commonwealths set .05 as DUI, and .08 as DWI.

They won't go tiered, but on bikes, alcohol is a statistical factor (and this is NHTSA talking) at .02 and up. This implies to me that a biker loses just enough "edge" to start fucking up on the road after a beer or two MAX in the last hour before he/she rides. And a lightweight woman like Amelia or GSXergrrrl might only pound down one brewski in the last hour before they ride and find themselves (again, statistically) squarely in the sweet spot for a significant chance of an accident. Others, and heavy guys, could do more brewskis, as with the standard DWI issues in a car, but as we all know, you really NEED that extra acuity and sobriety when you're out on a bike, especially at night. That extra edge might be the inch or two you need to clear the cage that turned left in front of you, or to recognize the hubcap for what it is before you heel the bike over in a turn, or that extra edge that lets you see the sand for what it is on a sand-colored pavement.

Now how is the drinkie worth the pain of wadding the bike and/or getting killed?

Wrong. When you're 3000lbs you can handle your alochol better. It's simple physics. I'm way more sober when I'm in a car than on a bike.

[/tonge in cheek]

Seriously though, it goes back to the judgement thing... when you're on a bike you're way more tempted to twist the go grip & ride like an a-hole after a couple, even if you feel like you're alright to ride.

Don't get me wrong... I don't make it a habbit to drink & ride/drive at all... but I have no problem with having a drink or two along with a meal, giving the alcohol time to get through my system and be processed by my liver, then grab my keys and get my ass home safely. There ARE still people who believe in and practice responsible social drinking.... But unfortunately too many people believe in it and not enough people actually practice it.

My sentiments exactly...and it's the people that don't practice it that really make it hard for the rest of us. It's funny how all of our conversations and discussions here always come back to the fact that a small number ruins it for the majority with bad rep.

I used to be guilty of getting pretty shitty and then riding home. Not anymore though. I've smartened up some.

Re: Drinking & riding

I can not tell a lie, so I checked yes .

I did it Saturday night of the Classic weekend after corner working got my self a burger and brew and rode down into the Wiers to work, not drink.

I can have one beer and then stop drinking and go riding anytime I like, nothing illegal about that .

Yet.

Re: Drinking & riding

Not worth it, taking into consideration the effects of decreased reaction time, the overall false invincible feeling that always seems to come with it, and oh yeah every cop and their brother looking for drunk stops
