    Dan...my bad the weight is actually 435 pounds. By comparison the CBR600 is 410 pounds and the Kawasaki ZX-6R is 421 pounds. Still the CBR1K is as light as a 600cc.

    Oh, cool - that makes sense then. 350 would be mind boggling. That's still a great power/weight ratio and no doubt a monster.

    a bit of burning oil should not be anyone's reason to not buy a bike that's 5.5k off MSRP.

    do you know how much fucking oil you could buy with even $4500 (fuck dealer fees, and throw in some extra just for shits)...?

I ain't seen cutthroat pricing like this since the mid-eighties. Of course, the bikes are just outta this world, too. Helluva bang for the buck. If my shoulders and wrists weren't so fucked, I'd grab one of the RRs just to have around as a plaything to ride a day a week just to remember what fast is. Gorgeous bike. Tempting to pick one up, not gas it and put it on display in the poolroom like Art Deco.

    After the 1980's I'da bet a million bucks I'd never see the Japs allow a glut like this to develop, but here were are. Only problem this time is, few peeps have the cash laying around to take advantage of the prices, and worse, he says there are fewer avenues of credit for motorcycles these days, especially for those with less than stellar credit ratings.
    (as I understand after calling around a fair bit about this):
    The current glut of 08's that you see at most dealers is actually additional stock. A couple of months ago Honda released several thousand bikes that they had sitting around that had never been ordered. The 5 dealers I spoke to all had ordered these 2008 models in mid-2009, some dealers got what they wanted and others were told you'll get what we send you. Some got 48 some got 12, some got 4. This also extended across some other boring machines and the VFR as well I guess, which suprised me since I thought they were cult icons. But if you want one of those for "$7999" it's not hard to do either.

    As for North Reading, I am willing to bet they didn't have to order anything as they probably have a full stock of 2007/08's hanging around
    They always seemed stoned anytime I attempted to negotiate. Like they were to sell for MSRP+ until 2 years after the bike is out. I remember a friend being excited they still had a yellow/black 929 there in 2002 when I got my 954. He was more excited they knocked 2k off MSRP, lame.

    I saw this price at a couple places here in w. ma, must be a Honda clearance thing. They aren't the model with ABS though.

    A guy I ride with has an 08 1000, he doesn't seem to have any problems with it. He misses his 600 in the corners, though (even though he still kicks my ass up and down 116).

    just stopped @ north reading powersport

    $7999 + $250(setup), they don't register nor do sales tax handling.

    they are not fun to deal with when it comes to trades against those bikes.
    they have 4 2008 cbr1K; yellow/black, red/black, silver/black, maroon/black?

    I saw 3 brand new 2007 bikes in the showroom, a zx10, a zx14 and a zx6r that were still above $10K, so I didn't stick around too long to negotiate on an 08.

    $7315 including fees for the 2008 CBR1000RR at Troy City Garage. No wonder I can't sell my 04; I guess I'll be keeping it.

    Bike = $7100
    Prep = $50
    Freight = $165

    Total = $7315

    This assumes an out of state buyer.

    so tempting

    bike is a monster...and the burning oil fear was a isolated incident...not every bike had that problem.

    Well, not sure about sales at North Reading Motorsports, but the kid, Chris, that booked my work there, and the tech that installed the horns and fixed this and that for me were first rate over there. They're gonna get all my service, except they won't pull my secondary flies and re-program. I gotta find an individual to do that, I guess. Not much in the way of custom Kawasaki mods up here. Nonetheless, they're a great crew and I kicked the tech a 50 buck tip. Chris the service-writer wouldn't take a dime. I believe in taking care of these folks, this stuff is life-safety.

    Getting back to sales, though, if a dealer has a huge overstock (or no overstock), that is, bikes on the floor plus bikes in crates in a warehouse, WHO is carrying the freight, that is, the interest and up-front? Surely Honda/Yama/Suzuki doesn't send the bikes to a dealer with no up-front payment? What's the avenue of credit for a dealer to get the bikes in-hand to sell them?

    Re: 2008 CBR1000rr's 7999$ OTD

    I typically avoid dealers for service at all costs anyways, life safety is important enough that I trust no one else with it. So my thoughts here really aren't valid.

    Not sure what you're asking about the second part, but I assume the 2500$ "bonus bucks" campaign Honda issued against those bikes, while selling them to dealers at a minor markdown has helped dealers not keep them in stock very long. Freight is covered as destination in the price.
