VIR dates March 2006 STILL not definite

Maybe I can shed some light on the whole license/school issue.

There are many track day and race schools being held all over the country at different tracks. Some of these schools are recognized as " Race License Certification School" and some are geared more toward advanced rider training. As long as the school is recognized by the race sactioning body you are going to race with,(CCS and WERA are the most common) you are eligable to get a racing license. Corner Speed is acredited by both CCS and WERA, so after completing their course you can get a license through both of those organizations.

The Penguin Racing School is only reconized by CCS at this time. We hold schools at NHIS, Jennings and Homestead. Attending any of these schools will make you eligible for a CCS license. If you take the school at NHIS we have included the Rookie Race as a practice race for the new racers. If you already have a license from CCS or WERA you do not have to participate in the rookie race.

NHIS has many Thursdays set aside as "Test and Tune" days. If motorcycles are racing that week end, they run cars from 8-12 then bikes from 1-5, and if cars are racing that week end bikes are on track in the morning, and cars are run in the afternoon. In the past you did not need any certs. or license to participate, though this may change in 2006. Check with NHIS for details before attending.

On Fridays preceeding every LRRS event at NHIS there is a Penguin Racing School. Both Basic (License Certification) and Advanced (how to ride faster and safer specificaly at NHIS) courses are held, in addition to Open Practice from 2:30-6 pm. The Open Practice is included with both classes. If you wish to participate in the open practice, but not take a class, you are welcome to. If you have a race license, you will ride with your ability group. If you do not have a race license, you will need to have a graduation card from the Penguin Racing School that is no older that 12 months. ( we round it the nearest week, so if the card is from the second weekend in June, it's good until the second weekend in June the next year) Typically we split the practice into 4 groups, EX/AM 600cc and bigger, EX/AM up to 600cc (this would include SV650, EX500, slower TZ250, 125's, motards etc.) , all novices, and unlicensed riders (Basic School students and any one who just wants to ride, but does not have a racing license)

So if you take Arron's Corner Speed Class at VIR, on Saturday, you can get your license directly from CCS and you will not have to take the Penguin School or do the Rookie Race. If you do not take the license class at VIR you will need to take a racing license school (like Penguin Racing School) before you can get your license. All the tracks I know of have a License Certification Class the day before or the day of their race events, and you can get your license and race the same or next day.

On another note, I will have several places in my trailer for the VIR event, I'll post prices when we see what gas is going for in late February, but there are currently 4 places open.

Question

VIR final price?

I'm in on this VIR trip, just looking to send some $$ out. Degs, let me get this straight, here's your post below from 12/8:

I have lowered the price from the original $450 to $350 (race license) or $375 (accredited school grad) because I am not renting the track exclusively this year.
This means that if you have no accreditation yet and pay the extra $370 for the Saturday, you will then be a Cornerspeed grad and get the Sunday and Monday for $375, so in effect, the Saturday school is only costing you $295 on top of the original price of $450 (I'm trimming it down to the wire to do this)

I'd like to do all 3 days and I DO NOT have any school accreditation, so its gonna cost me $370 for Saturday and $375 for Sunday and Monday. Right, this is still the cost? Please confirm the final price for me and let me know who make payment to and where to send my payment.

Also, do I get some kind of reciept or confirmation that I'm signed up? $745 is some serious cash & VIR is a little too far to "hope" that I'm signed up. Thanks!

Anybody wanna share a ride from the Albany area? I've got a truck and trailer space.

Tom, your price is actually $720 as I'm throwing in a $25 incentive for people who need to do all three days (including level 1 school).

On top of that, Tony (www.tonystrackdays.com) is offering a $50 coupon towards one of his trackdays at Loudon this year for anyone who has to sign up for the school as well as the two trackdays.

Send payment to

derek sinclar
249 hart street
taunton, MA 02780

or paypal derek@netrackriders.com

I will send you a written receipt if required, no problem on that.

derek

Hi Guys.
I don't think my bike or myself will be ready for all the stuff mentioned in this thread. I do have a few questions though. I would like the option of open test days, or any of the organized track days. What are the tech requirements for your bike with Penguin. If you don't intend to actually race, are you still allowed to do the rookie race with a minimally prepared bike, such as the requirements Tony has? Can you still do open test days {NHIS} if you take the Penguin school minus the three lap"rookie" race? I called the track a few minutes ago, and they were a little vague.
On Thursday open test {NHIS}, there is no tech inspection, but your bike should be prepped for racing. Hmm, sounds like when I used to go up there, years ago. They were very specific about wanting to see the Penguin cert. That was the only one they would accept. Any advice would be great.

You CANNOT do the rookie race unless you pass LRRS tech which means you must be fully safety wired, helmet checked ect.

Checks in the mail

Derek,
I sent my check out yesterday, you should have it in a day or two. How do I get that $50 off a tonys trackday mentioned? Or should I be asking Tony this question?

71 Days and counting!

I think we should do the following..

After the event, Derek will send me a list of names and email address of those eligible for the $50 off deal.

I will then create a spreadsheet and email each person to confirm.

The VIR event is well before our first date, so there is time after VIR to accomplish this.

Hi yall,
I'm trying to get to this for Sunday and Monday. Anybody from Mass area trailering down and have room ? I'd kick in a gas contribution for carrying me bike !

One additional question. Does my bike need to be safety wired ? I have my oil filter wired and I'll have water wetter in it
but that's about it so far.

thanks, akira

Your oil filter and oil drain plug must be safety wired, that is all. You must also not have any anti-freeze in your radiator.

I can prep your bike and trailer it for you. When we see what gas prices are I can give you a firm price, but last year I think it was $225

Anyone have space to trailer 2 bikes down for me? I am trying to figure out if I can make it down. I want to take one of my motards and a bigger bike. Please let me know. - Mike
