Bike requirements

I plan to be at my first ever track day and was looking at the LAPS site and seen it says 75% tires required and I was curious about my current rubbers (hehehe I said rubbers) they are pp 2ct's with about 4k on them that are about halfway to the wear bars in the center but are like brand new every where else but the 2-3 inches that wear from a lot of high way riding. So basicly it about 50% on the center and 90+% on the part that will be used most on the track and I wanted to know if that would be ok at a LAPS event.

Also would it be ok to strip the bike of all the body work but the tail? I figured it would be but want to just ask

Tires should be fine based solely on your description, but we reserve final judgement until we see them go through TECH. Anywhere near 50% middle & 90% edges will be fine, especially for a first timer.

Removal of bodywork is fine too - and we are a race bodywork distributor. If you need a set specifically for trackdays, just say the word.

We look forward to seeing you there.

6) We do not require, although we strongly recommend, the use of distilled water or water wetter in place of coolant at all events.

Thanks for the quick reply. But as for the body work forget about it, its an FZ1 NO ONE will have that in race plastic

You run a bike on the street without antifreeze? Wow!!!

When I used to do track days with a water cooled motor it was always a consideration when we were heading to Barber or VIR late in the season whether to DRAIN the radiator completely since we were often leaving in sub-freezing weather and I don't have any friends with a heated trailer!!!

And on the street, I ride all year round, so when I had a water cooled bike I always ran anti-freeze.

But for the track, even if not required, a crash with spilled antifreeze will introduce you to lots of people with much advice. Spilled water, (or water wetter), won't even get you noticed!!!

Coolant has a higher boil temp then water, and supposedly due to aditives, less likely to develope crap that will clog up you cooling system..
Go to southern Cali, they run coolant there too..

As our website states, we do not require, but we do recommend draining the antifreeze and using either distilled water or Water Wetter. It makes the clean up less time consuming in case you should happen to tip over.

JOE

Boiling o is a bulk process, so at the boiling point molecules anywhere in the liquid may be vaporized, resulting in the formation of vapor bubbles.

water wetter helps by- This localized boiling can cause a layer of water vapor to form over the hot spot. This vapor forms an insulative blanket and prevents heat from leaving this area, thus making the hot spot even worse. But reducing the surface tension of the water makes it easier for vapor bubbles to leave the surface of the cylinder head and allows the bubbles to convect heat away from the area. Something that changes the surface tension of a liquid is called a "surfactant". It does not take very much surfactant to significantly change the surface tension of water. Hence, you do not need to add very much "Water Wetter" in order for it to do its job.

An additional benefit of using "Water Wetter" (in conjunction with 100% water) in you cooling system is that water has an extremely high heat capacity. Thus a gallon of 100% water can carry more heat away from you engine than an equivalent gallon of 50/50 water and coolant. Water also has a high thermal conductivity which increases the convection of heat away from the coolant passage walls and into the free stream of the liquid flowing through the passages.

DAVE

I have run water wetter from late this past winter when it was dipping into the teens and had no problems. I also leave my bike outside.

In another 2 months I will add 20-30% anti freeze just to be safe
