Just an FYI, the track listens in on the radios during trackdays, so if someone is seen stunting on one of tonys track days, not only does Tony know, but the track does too. They would think nothing of escorting you off the premises if they felt like it. No refund, no appeal.

doing a wheelie down the front straight can hardly be called stunting.

you should come watch some 'stunting' sessions sometime, you might get your mind blown by the sportbike manipulation you will see!

too bad that the northeast in general and nhis is so narrow minded, they wouldnt even let FUSA sanction an XSBA event during bike week-at no cost to them! and NH with the highest number of motorcycles per capita than anyone in the country.

Teach, I take your comments at face value, you present your points well. I know you are a very good racer and a very good stunter. I have been watching stunting for years (I used to ride with Gary Rothwell when he was just getting a name for himself stunting an old CB750) I also raced at Daytona in '03 and saw you and the rest of the XSBA guys doing your stuff. I'm impressed, really. As you probably know, I asked Core6 to run a show at lunchtime for the Tamworth trackday and I still hope to make that happen in some way.

Stunts go wrong, you know it and I know it. I have seen a racer at Loudon wheelie over the line on the last lap and toss his bike down the front straight. Think of the bad publicity for Naults if it was the one time it went wrong. I know YOU can wheelie as easily as riding in a straight line, but others will follow your example and one of them might be the one to crash.

Couple of points. I firmly believe I could stunt just as good as 90% of the stunters I have seen if I had a bike I didn't care about like they do, whether the bike is a little warm, ratty, whatever. I would actually like to try a stunters bike out sometime to see how I do, you know with the dinner plate sprocket and the tail slider thingy. I just feel that most of them do the same old trick over and over and over.

Like I said, everybody knows that you know what you are doing. You're the exception to the rule.

Imagine johnny newbie on his ZX636 at Naults trackday seeing you wheelying down the front straight and thinking "I'll have some of THAT please". The next time he comes out of turn 12 he gives it a handful of throttle and highsides his 19 year old head into the wall and repaints it brain-color. Trust me, disclaimer or not, you're all going to be filling out forms and taking days off for court appearances for years. I had $5 Million in insurance for the VIR days and I was worried sick that someone was going to hurt themselves.

Yes, it does suck that NHIS takes a dim view of stunting, but they are not a public facility, they are a private one. Stunt shows at lunchtime during trackdays makes them no extra cash so they aren't interested. I have seen stunt shows at the old AMA events there and I'm sure the AMA had some involvement to allow it to happen.

I just ran a 2 day event at VIR and the ambulances did not move once. I didn't hear about a single wheelie or any other stunting. That's the way I wanted it. Trackdays are for teaching people how to corner and control their bikes in a safe environment while allowing them to push themselves a little bit more than they would on the street. Stunting is for parking lots, not the racetrack.

Having said that, I wasn't there and it is easy to form a picture of an out of control day. I'm sure it wasn't really like that and any stunts were just a way of showing how much you were enjoying the day. It's great fun showing people around the track, I do it regularly. I get a kick out of seeing people improve their riding right in front of my eyes.

FWIW the only time I'll give in to a little showboating is in the last few laps of a 100 lap endurance race when I'll hold the front up over the hill in 5 a little longer than is really neccessary and do the obligatory burnout in the hot pit after the race.

gentlemen, points well taken.

as for the views being unjustified...i rethought that comment. your views are justified most definately, i just think that perhaps your experience that day was the exception rather than the rule.

degs, you are point on with your post. while i tried hard to remain neutral, some defensiveness did show through as i replied late last night.

believe me, it is always nice to get the view from the other side of the fence. i am the type of person who can easily see both sides and use that vision to make better decisions in the future. you can bet your bottom dollar i'll think twice about the front straight wheel loft at september's track day.

you are also right in that stunting is boring. i'd rather race ANY day than ride wheelies, parking lot, race track, or streets for that matter. nothing touches racing, unfortunately i can't keep up with the tires needed to maintain speed!

i'll leave this thread where it is. i'll also bring some of these points you guys are making and apply them at our next track day to improve safety and organization...so for that, thanks.

and one more thing degs: if you can manage a little rear brake practice, i would have no problem throwing the cage, a bar, and some more gearing onmy bike and have you out to the 'spot' to give it a shot....sundays is usually our day and i got a spot with only 1 or 2 other guys.

anyways, i'm off to polute the minds of today's youth....see you guys with a knee down!

BTW, anyone catch webcrush on the NEAR list saying how Jerry told him to hit another racer back (on track) after being bumped. Then Jerry denies saying it. They are sooooo full of shit up there.

and i do believe Jerry would have told adam that ., no doubt.... but Jerry is covering his butt too..
