VIR Update from Degsy

Update:

Thank-you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.

After spending a week on chemo at St.Elizabeth's with no change, we had Beth transferred to Brigham & Womens yesterday. We found 2 doctors who specialize in cervical ectopic pregnancies who had the skills and tools to deal with this in the best manner. They immediately administered a fatal shot of potassium chloride directly into the fetus and we heartbreakingly had to watch the fetal heartbeat fade away on the ultrasound. Our unborn baby took about 30 seconds to die. That will live with me for the rest of my life.

They told us that it was a very healthy, normal fetus but because of it's location in Beth's uterus it was a plain choice, the mother or the baby. 50 years ago Beth would have died during the pregnancy. 20 years ago she would now have no chance of conceiving a child ever again. It pays to check out all the possibilities and avenues and get second opinions before you let anyone medically treat you or a loved one. We are lucky to live in an area where medical care is the best on the planet.

Beth is coming home today and will have a few weeks of convalescing until everything is back to normal, but we are told that we will be able to have our own children very soon with no complications. I'm so releived to have my wife back healthy.

Again, thanks for the prayers and for keeping us in your thoughts, it helped enormously.

Derek

Wonderful news Degs!!

Thank goodness we live in times when things like this can be handled by the medical community.

Degs -

Good to hear everything came out as okay as possible. Clearly you made the right choice to stay with your family this weekend and it shows that you are a good man. My thoughts will stay with you.

... Damn Derek... I don't think i can begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear about losing the baby... I can't begin immagine what that was like to go through, I'm so sorry bro.

On the flip side of things, I'm so happy that you and Beth will be alright, that she'll make a full recovery and you two can try again. That really lifts a load off to hear ya say that and in that respect i'm really pumped for you guys. Best of luck to ya & here's to having fun trying again in the future once this has all passed

Send Beth my best wishes. You guys were in my thoughts all weekend. Hope to see ya soon, bro.
