VIR photographyGreat pix. Thanks guys!!! It's fun re-living the experience. The freight train pictures are particularly fun to see. |

VIR photographyAfter looking at my photos... I'm going to work more on hanging off. I never was a big knee dragger... usually just use it to find the limit and then I pull it back up... but I could definitely use a little more. It's odd to see photos of people that I'm going faster than... but they have their knee on the ground and mine is not even close. ![]() |

VIR photographyKnee dragging is a weird issue to me. I've planted me knee of some laps that were not so fast and then I've gone 2 seconds faster and never really used my knee as much. (I'm referring to loudon) |

VIR photographyYeah... same here. I'm looking forward to some more "experimenting" this year. Been reading a lot of books about riding... it will be fun to test some of the ideas. |

VIR photographyI love dragging knees. It really gives me a level of feedback that tells me where I am in reference to speed and reference points. I usually touch down in the same place each time. An example is, if I want to turn quicker, I look to touch down earlier. |

VIR photographyas time as gone on, i have found myself not sticking my knee out as much, but I still feel like i'm getting quicker i always fight with myself about my body position, if its ok, if it is allowing me to have optimal Center of Gravity for the best traction and the great lean angles. i feel comfortable out there so maybe its ok ... who knows |

VIR photographyanother part of body position I'd like to experiment with is not only moving side to side on the bike but front to back. maybe sliding back on the seat sometimes might lend more traction to the rear and vise versa. I got this idea from the movie Faster when Kevin Shwantz was talking aobut the difference a rider can make on the handling of a motorcycle ( I watched it again last night ). On the other hand, books like TWOTW2 by Kieth Code recommend not moving around too much front to back. |

VIR photographyyeah, moving back is bad ... the design of the bike and what it wants for weight distribution, keeping you nuts pressed agaist the tank is what you want |

VIR photographyThanks for the comments. I'm pretty huge on body positioning. I've spent HOURS analyzing photos of top-level riders (LRRS, AMA, MotoGP) and how they sit on the bike. Over the course of the past year I've fanatically critiqued my style and modified it to match what I've observered as 'proper' style. As a matter of fact that's the first thing I looked at when I opened Saxman's link Yes I know there are exceptions to every rule. However there is definately a Majority Style going on in roadracing. Perhaps this is because I come from sports where you are judged constantly by your style. If you do a trick on your bike / board that looks like crap, you get no respect for it. Heh. |

VIR photographythere is such diversity in pro racing though as far as body positions go ... from what I have seen anyway |

VIR photographyI've gone over my theory on this previously. http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...threadid=18611 Works for me. Find out what works for you. ![]() edit: Oh yea, just because knee touches doesn't mean you stop leaning. As Ken said, it's a feeler gauge letting you know how much lean angle you have left. Not going to make corner, lean over more. Riding Pete's ZX... stop leaning when knee touches immediately |

VIR photographyYeah... sliding back as you straighten the bike is not bad and can certainly help with rear wheel traction. I slide back more for positioning... to allow me to tuck better down a straight. However, we do see a lot of people staying back on the seat when cornering... and we try to discourage this. |

VIR photographyI try to stay as forward as possible accelerating and coming out of the corners to keep the front wheel on the ground. Something I've been working on recently. |
