I love the Castlevania games, righ now, I would have to say that, "Castlevania, Lament of Innocence" is my favorite game.

I pretty much only care about video games if they actually add something new that is not out there. My initial interest in games was purely technical, I wanted to develop them until I realized they rarely make money.

As far as I am concerned the GTA games are pretty much the only thing going right now that is actually innovation...

Pretty much anything you can do in any other game, you can do in GTA, so why would I want to play the others.

Almost all games are just rehashing of existing games right now, once I've played a genre of game once I don't really need to play it again. It's just a big waste of time unless it is new and novel, as games will never be as exciting as "real" activities.

I played Vice City, I suspect I will play all the way through San Andreas, but if the next one doesn't continue to innovate, I probably will get sick of this style of game too.

E.x. why would I play Halo 2 when it is pretty much the exact same thing as Doom was in 1994, but with better graphics?

I hear you though, the Castlevania game I mentioned is a re-hash, I like it simply for the theme. It does get dragged out a bit. My biggest point of contention with GTA is the timed missions, it gets frustrating after about 10 tries, as they seemed to be geared towards the reaction times of hyperactive 10 year olds...

That surprises me, that they don't make any $$. I read an article about a year ago about the guys working on the doom line of games and I thought it said they were all driving ferraris, but worked ALL the time.

good luck getting a job at id, tho... yeah, they cleaned up big time on doom & doom 2, but that was a loooong time ago. from everything i hear, half-life 2 takes doom 3's lunch money, then goes and fucks its mom.

Yah well the thing is there are 1000 games that don't make any money for every one game like Doom... Games are expensive and then they only cost $50 per copy.

Not like the software I work on, it is probably no more expensive to make than a game, and then we sell it for like $3 million a customer...

It is like trying to hit the lottery. Unless you are the genius coming up with the awesome game ideas it's not the greatest place to be.

I don't have much luck actually thinking up the game play parts, I'm only good at the technical part so I don't think I would be any good at games.

good point.
go down to EB or whatever (even better, staples) and check out the number of titles there... some, clearly, had almost no development cost, but most of the others probably cost nearly as much as doom3 to produce.

that's why i do hardware.

I haven't found iraqis yet but there may be people in the game who look middle eastern...

Haven't found C4 yet either, just molotov cocktails & grenades..

There is one mission where you toss the molotovs through the windows of a house and watch it go up in flames... how is that?

And then there are the gang wars, lots of fun. Recruit some homies and go pick off some of the opposing gang members and you get a mini-war for a neighborhood... win the war and you win that neighborhood for you gang.. pretty cool stuff.

Heheh.. actually you just gotta respect any game where there is a mini-game where you date a girl, and you are taking her out to dinner and she announces she wants to go do drive-by shootings instead... imagine that.
