Question

car problem

i acquired a 93 3000GT non turbo few months. it has been running like crap so i drove it easy and there was no problem until couple of weeks a go when i put in new plugs. the car really came alive. i beat the shit out of it for a day then then alternater crapped out. i had it rebuild, put it all back together, and drove it home. everything seemed fine. i took it to work this morning and what do you know. it ffuckin die on me. as i passed exit 28 rte3, the rpm goes crazy then engine shuts off. so i pulled over. now it wouldn't start. it cranked but wouldn't start. as i wait for a friend, a MASS highway guy stopped by and couple of state troopers stopped by. i decided to give it one more time. it started but die again shortly.

question to you mechanics. normally which electrical compnoents got overheat and wouldn't start?

Dont buy Mitsubishi.... Thats my first line of advice!

I have known a number of people that had TONS of problems with a few different models.
3000GT (2 Known of)
Eclipse (2 Known of)
Galant (2 known of)
? Some smaller sedan ?

All turned into major money pits..

Wheres Sidewinder? He'll tell you!

I hope you got the car for short $.
Once you get it fixed, find another sucker......

Good luck..

Check the normal stuff....

Is it getting fuel pressure?

What do you mean the RPM's went crazy before it died? Coulda been leaning out from a fuel pump problem.....

Had something similar happen in an old honda...when it was humid, it would die and sputter, then not start. Turned out to be a hairline crack in the dizzy cap. Replaced it and the rotor and it was fine.

Kham,

Also unplug the battery, turn the car on for 10 seconds (to drain the computer) and then turn the car off. Then plug the battery back in. This 'should' reset your ECU and get it back to normal.

I've had it happen in my truck during wacky weather. After a reset all the sudden it ran great again.

In fact, I'd reset the CPU before anything else.

On most Mitsubishis, you can read the ECU error codes using a multimeter. Do a google search on how to do it. I would say to get a Chilton manual but the one for my Galant is fucking terrible so I would assume it would be similar for your 3000.

Engine needs: Air, Fuel, Spark, Compression.

I'd go the spark route, check the wires and coil wire specifically. Especially since you said you only changed plugs, tugging and moving the wires around could have caused them to break apart inside.

Check the ECU codes before you reset it! And trouble shoot from their.

Have you even thrown a check engine light, or did that not even come on?
