Compressor for working on stuff....

I'm looking for a cheap compressor that can handle working with an impact wrench and a couple other tools. I will be needed to do a clutch on my truck and want to make it easier on myself.

I have these two compressors in mind. I don't have the space for a full size....

Sears one, low budget

Other one is a Husky Model WL6510 at the Home Depot site (they don't like linkys)

Any recommendations? It's occasional use, doesn't need to be really good and I don't mind waiting for the thing to replenish while working on my truck. Thoughts?

125 psi with 90 SCFM will run an impact gun, or an air ratchet fine for one guy working in his own garage. You will occasionally have to wait for it to cycle up to pressure though.

I would go with the one from Sears personally (just my opinion).

The real performance will be determined by the air tools, more than the compressor. You might want to consider renting the impact gun, since good ones can get expensive fast.

BTW, the best penetrating oil I have found to date is PB Blaster. Soak all the exhaust bolts, etc (drink coffee), soak again, (drink coffee), and give them a try.

Good Luck...

TI - is one of them 150$ walmart deals too large for the space? Think wall mounting here...

For wrenching on the bolts you're wrenching with impact, a little tank will dump out fastlike and you'll be buying a bigger tank pretty fast...but not as fast as if you try to whip a die grinder or somethin.

I had the same idea as you and after a few trips back and forth returning shit, I have a 6.5 hp compressor w/30gal. tank. I just cut up some shelving I had already and rebuilt it around the compressor - you can't even tell it's there now

The good news: I'd love a big compressor!

The bad news: I'd love a garage or place to keep it!

It will have to roll or be able to be carried, no matter what it is.

What price range are you looking at? $100 isn't a bad deal for a small compressor, but I think one that small will drive you nuts.

You will be much happier with This one or the vertical equivalent .

that sears one is tiny, cones with "sports inflation needles" I don't think you could count on it to power an air tool, certainly not a sandblaster or anythinglike that. It would have problems seating a bead on a large tire (get out the can of ether) but you could blow up a lot of soccer balls

That's not too bad of a deal I think. The vertical one even comes with a rachet for $218....

I don't have a place to keep one other than a basement that isn't mine. I have no garage and no place to permanantly mount one. I can't get one too large or else I'd have to keep it at the parents house and will get no use out of it.

what you require is the one from walmart for $150 that comes with a "garage of tools" and a few minutes with a welder to make it vertical.

If you're willing to spend some $$$, take a look @ the porter cables @ Lowes, the twin tankers for doing multiple roof nailers - they can still do about 5-6 cfm at 90 psi yet they are small as hell and easy to carry.

there is an "alltrade" equiv of the above at costco for about 90$ right now too. I think it only does about 3.5 cfm, but thats nasty for a 35# compressor.

3Gal is a bit small...

I got a small 10gallon one from like... 1986 for 50$. It was cheap, does its job, and pumps up fairly quickly. Very simple, will likely last forever, and its incredibly small.

Look around tag sales, or used crap before you go spending perfectly good coin, on something that someone else was going to throw away.
