New Ford Truck pricing Question

So I went and looked at a F150 loaded yesterday and got what I thought was a great price, now I just need to talk about what they are going to rape me for with my Explorer for a trade.

Looking to get:
2005 F-150 Lariat - Arizona Biege ( Loaded! ) 4X4 Super ext cab W/ 6 1/2' bed.
5.4L EFI V8
Black leather Int W/ Leather trimmed Captians chairs!
Power everything - Even power 2nd row windows!
18" alum wheels
BF's - Off road OWL tires
Running boards
Power Moon roof
Tow package
Revearse sensing system

Only things missing I wanted was the power rear sliding window, Step side style, and a CD Changer that holds more than one CD.

MSRP would have been $34,385
Ford Family Price $32,038
Cash back = $3000
Price was 29,038.50
I got them to commit to 25,538.50

Sound good?
I will be calling the Sales Manager during the day to get a rough $ value for my trade, I dont have the time or feel like going down there again. But I want to put a deposit to hold on to this one truck before it moves on....

Ow you said it..

14mpg city, 18mpg highway, 30 gallon capacity, range 364-468mi.

At $2.50/gal = $75 to fill the tank, at $3/gal = $90 to fill the tank.

Hope yah got lots of stuff to tow Mike...

As far as the price, take it and run, that it awesome! But as many have stated you'll need to use the savings in fuel If you ride the bike more often than the truck, I'd say go for it!

New Ford Truck pricing Question

My Explorer is only getting 15.5 - 17 MPG so i am not going to see much of a change, only a longer range per tank!

And yes I need to tow a decent amount!

I am now waiting for the Sales Manager to call me back with a Trade in Value for my Explorer.
KBB Listed it @ $11,575
NADA @ $10,975

We shall see how close they get...
If they get close I have one more call to see if My next door neighbor Dealership can do better?

Is that the wholesale or retail value on the truck? Normally I'd expect their offer to be about 1 - 2000 under wholesale. A car salesman is the worst kind of salesman.

New Ford Truck pricing Question

You could always drive your Explorer to a few dealerships(even just used car dealerships) and ask if/how much they'd buy it off you for. I used to work at a used car dealership and we'd write someone a check on the spot.

Wish I still had access to the auction reports, I'd be able to tell you how much those Explorers are selling for. NADA, Edmunds, ect., don't always give an accurate reflection of true market value.

Figure anywhere between between 7 and 9.5 for the explorer. I just went through this when I bought my truck two weeks ago. At the price for 25 and change I would say if you can get 8 for the explorer you would be doing very well. Keep in mind these dealers are sitting on a shitload of used vehicles due to the employee plans so they are not giving the greatest trade in values right now. What stealership are you looking at, I have been to most of them in the last month and gotten to know a few sales managers.

$25,500 for a brand new loaded F-150? I'll be right behind you if that is the case.

They take Acura's for trade?

New Ford Truck pricing Question

Seems the 3K was the trade they offered.. I told him if thats the case there is no way i could loose that much on my Explorer. I just bought the thing less than 3 years ago for 21K.

We went back and forth and I told him I research the value and found trade in was ranging from $10,500 - to $11. He pretty much said due to the used car market, there is no way he can get me that.

He came back at me with $8500 and said when I come down Thursday he will work the numbers out and get the trade closer to KBB Value to make th deal.

So now the price is $28,536
Minus my trade of a minumum of $8500
So for under $20K financed OTD it's a good deal!
HE is Holding the truck for me without a deposit till Thursday!

Looks like he is playing the standard game of offer a massive discount on the new car and try to screw you on the trade.

My little brother just started selling Hondas about 7 weeks ago and is working hard on learning the ability to screw people on the trade.

For comparison on how stupid his offer is, especially from a FORD dealer, I got $4500 for my focus, which cost less then 1/2 what your Explorer cost, and it was about the same age. (Probably less mileage though)

It is total insanity when the MSRP is $10k over what they are willing to sell the truck for though. GM and Ford have got to lower the prices back to some level of reality.

still sounds like a good deal mike. i would shop around other makes still. if you can get another truck with what you want for a lower price take it to ford and make them match it. most times they will. make them bitchs beg fo yo $$

That sounds about right online with what I was saying. They will probably be able to get you to 10k maybe 10.5 on the trade in that case.

Because the dealer was figuring his trade for only $3K but is obviously worth more, they reflect a lower sales price on the F150.

Buying a car this way is tough, negotiating two numbers at once.

The smartest way to do it, is to get the lowest price on the vehicle you're buying...don't even bring up a trade. Once you get that number, THEN throw the trade in the mix. This way, you know what the deal really breaks down as.

One reason dealers don't like when customers do this, is everybody thinks their trade is worth more than it really is, so they don't want you to think they're lowballing you, even if they're not. (but they'll still try)

New Ford Truck pricing Question

I gotta agree with Slaps on this one Mike.

Get a hard number for the price of the truck. Tell them someone already bought your Exploder. Get the offer written and then take it to other dealerships to see if they can beat it. Get ALL the offers in writing complete with all costs (transportation, "paper fees", etc) and then compare. Once you get all your final prices for the new truck, THEN bring up that the buyer backed out and you want so and so for your trade or you'll walk.

Trust me. It works. I did it when I was about to buy a brand new Taco(which I didn't).

Also, email the places. I got two seperate prices of 2% over invoice for the Taco's I was looking at. The internet sales people don't fuck around and tell you what they will push the vehicle out for. And then you can walk into the same dealer you already got a quote from and fuck the salesman who did all the legwork for your sale in the ass as you say "I know we worked out a deal, but the internet guy in the back just beat it by 2 grand, so piss off fuckface".
