I will only burn a flag after I completely run out of clean spots to wipe my ass with it.

See, that is the great thing about this country, you can dissent without serious recourse (i.e. freedom of speech). Saddam et all would do things like "stomp" you for similar acts under their rule. Those who would do the same here undermine and dimish the constitutions philosophic backbone that makes this among the best countries in the world.

Freedom is not free. It arises from dissent.

Say, reckon those boobs are real?

I think flag burning should be legal, but never practiced. Free speech doesn't mean "free unless 90% of us disagree with it"...

Anyone else know an American Flag (if hanging during the night) must have a light on it.

I didn't know that until last night.

Q.Are you required to destroy the flag if it touches the ground?

A.Flag Code section 176b states that the flag should not touch anything beneath it such as the ground. This is stated to indicate that care should be exercised in the handling of the flag, to protect it from becoming soiled or damaged. You ARE NOT required to destroy the flag when this happens. As long as the flag remains suitable for display, even if washing or dry-cleaning (which is acceptable practice) is required, you may continue to display the flag as a symbol of our great country.

Q.Is it proper to fly the flag of the United States at night?

A.The Flag Code states it is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flag staffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness. The American Legion interprets "proper illumination" as a light specifically placed to illuminate the flag (preferred) or having a light source sufficient to illuminate the flag so it is recognizable as such by the casual observer.

Pete...any of that flag code define what 'desecration' of a flag is? I'm sure everyone understands things like buring a flag or useing it for TP would merit the term. Albeit the intent to do is not present, but there could be a strong agrument that things like July 4th American flag paper napkins and plates would be desicration (wiping your mouth with the flag, eating off the flag, etc)...an american flag seat on your bike (sitting on the flag), etc etc...granted those things are mere representations of a real flag, but you could argue desecration of the *idea* is the same as desecration of the material item...

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner
whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or
handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or
boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising
signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

I see lots of stars and stripes printed on stuff, but rarely THE Stars and Stripes printed on anything.

Flag Code Should be required reading in schools...

To answer your question Chris, I didn't see anything that defines desecration per se, but I suppose that any lack of respect might fit that category.
