Try GPSonsale.com . I have the Garmin 76CS and have no complaints. Its also 379 now. I paid about 475 when I got it.

if it for the car she can't go wrong with either a Quest II or a 2610

Amazon.com has Quest II for $543 with free shipping.

I think the 2610 came out even cheaper, $490 total if you take their credit card.

WE had that one at work, till it got stolen. It is a decent unit, I dont have alot of experience with them. but the one at work you couldnt program it as you drove.

Garmin hands down.
lightning shipping with gpsdiscount.com , they do everything 2 day air for short $ and typically ship next day if you're still looking.

I researched a couple of the cheaper portable GPS systems out there Magellan Roadmate 300, Garmin Quest II, and Garmin Street Pilot i5.

1. Magellan Roadmate - got horrible reviews from just about everybody. Not easy to use, not internal HD, gotta pay $50 for maps, etc

2. Garmine Quest - Got good reviews over all, still no internal HD, long time to sync maps up with unit

3. Garmin Street Pilot i5 - Got good reviews all around, has a smaller internal HD (I think), and will easily hold detailed street maps for all of new england + NY and NJ atleast.

For me personally, I don't do much driving farther South then NJ and based on everything I read and the price ($390 on www.gpsonsale.com), I'd get and probably will be getting the Garmin Street Pilot i5...

The I5 is a good little unit, no internal battery but has the USA loaded internally so no loading up, uses the same GPS as the streetpilot 330 but has smaller screen and no battery or touchscreen. my favorite is the SPC330 though, on sale at Circuit City for $599 and has suction cup to windshield for portability, has built in HD with US and Canada pre-loaded, and is touchscreen which makes it very easy to use

The only thing I worry about with a HD is motorcycle vibration. Since quite a few riders mount the GPS to the bars, they may transmit a lot of vibration to the unit.

I recommend GPS units designed for marine use for motorcycles, especially the Garmin 276C or its successor if it is outdated

the 276C is water proof/shockproof, has a larger easier to read display, one of the faster processors, with extra memory, you can fit maps for the whole US & Canada on it

if you are that worried buy it with the warranty that covers vibration, moisture, and general wear and tear, it is a bit expensive but they are all swap out for new ones at my store. Meaning that if you have the 2 or 4 year plan, if it craps out without being crushed or cracked, or mangled withing that plan length you bring it in and we give you a new GPS on the spot. If we don;t have the same GPS anymore then we give you credit back towards a different one and also pro-rate your service plan back to you.
