Yeah, I bought myself a somewhat fancy camera, and like taking pictures now.

Now I'm whoring my www.flickr.com photo page out.

Camera I bought is a Canon Powershot Pro1.

Dig the photos. I enjoy dabbling in pictures too and just got a new Kodak Z740. I'm still trying to figure out most of it especially the macro pictures. Keep them coming.

I was hoping to get a Nikon D100 SLR and instead got the Z740 from my MIL for Christmas. I'm not at all disappointed with it. Nice little camera.

Now I cant wait for spring even more. Now I'll have a goal when heading out for endless day-long cruises on the bike, I can head off to locations I wouldnt otherwise bother driving to in my car. Now I just have to figure where I'll strap a tripod onto my bike

Glad to see you're enjoying the new camera.

Lots of fun. I haven't shot as much lately I'm looking for new stuff that piques my interest.

I'm going to Arizona for vacation in 2 weeks though so I'm going to get some cool shots out there.

The best part is it won't look like this when I get there:

Make a side trip up to Zion National Park in southern Utah if you've never been. It's awesome.

I haven't.. but it's a tough call. I just found out about this so I haven't planned well. To go to Zion to really take pictures seriously I'm going to need to stay in the area for a couple days.

I'm actually going to bicycle. I'm not in good enough shape to go cycle 100+ miles each day at this point in the year so realistically I'll have plenty of time to hike and photograph.

But to photograph a place seriously you really need to be there at/around dawn & sunset. So I'm better off picking one place and staying there.

The guys who do it very seriously camp out for long periods of time in the parks. If you're just there for a brief period it's really tough to get beyond touristy pics.

So for that reason I may just stay in the Sedona area and stay pretty close to one area, and maybe go visit the Grand Canyon.

There are a few places close to or over 10,000ft on paved roads so I will be wanting to go climb some of those roads on my bicycle while I'm there.

Well, hmmm, if you can get to Page AZ and spend a day in Antelope Canyon with your camera, you will likely get some spectacular shots.

This was a quick snapshot in Antelope Canyon. The place was beautiful.

CO river in Page AZ

Glen Canyon Dam in Page AZ

I don't recall where this was sho, but I rather like the sky in it.

The last one looks like Arches NP.

These places are really picturesque of course but one thing is they have been photographed to death.

It's almost hard to imagine living here in New England. They joke all the time about so many people taking pictures in the same places that you can go put your tripod in the holes that have been worn into the rock after thousands of people tried to copy a famous photo.

What, in reference to all the national park/picturesque places out west?

I just meant that so many people with cameras congregate in the same areas.

I've read accounts of people out west going to photograph something and when they get there they find 50 guys already there with tripods. That's mind blowing and I don't think I'd find it pleasant, I go out to parks/forests, etc.. for the solitude.

Here are my shots from the last time I went to the WM national forest. I didn't see another person taking pictures the whole day, like 8 hours of time in several locations.

White Mountains photos

So for example if I was to drop out of mainstream work and go try to make a photography book I'd be way more inclined to find an area here in the Northeast that is not photographed that often and concentrate on that, rather then one of the Western areas that have been photographed so much more.

There's plenty of stuff out there from the Whites but it seems like a drop in the bucket compared to Yosemite, Zion, Yellowstone, etc..
