Wait tables? Nights/weekends are the busiest times.

Bartending. Easiest part time money short of stripping/hooking.

I tried @ being behind the bar, and found myself on the wrong side...

I don't have a great memory for cocktails and whatnot...

I'm gonna hafta disagree with that. There's a lot more to bartending than just....well, bartending...

It all depends on where you tend bar, Jay. I bartend at the Verizon in Manchester, and while the hours are intermittent (depends on the event schedule), I make about $40/hour on average. I work when I want, I can say no to shifts, I can work extra if I want to.

So I wouldn't knock the profession entirely...it just sounds like you were in a shitty situation. I stand by my claim that bartending has the most per-hour, non-degree-required job out there that doesn't involve stripping, selling narcotics, or sucking dick.

RE will COST you money initially, and can take a while to get a strong base. Especially doing it part time!

What kinda bartending do you do at the Verizon? Serve BEER?

Mebbe I should give them and the Fisher Cats a call, eh?

Nah, I'm not a concession stand bitch. I bartend in the club lounge where we make actual drinks. True that we're not a full service bar (we have liquor, but not three shelves full, and no frozen shit), but it's more than just beer. That said, I've been doing this for four years and I still don't know shit, so a bartending license isn't required...if I don't know a drink, I just ask.

I'm not sure if the Fisher Cats have a lounge like the Verizon does, but it might be worth a shot.

If I came to the doors on an event night and said "I'm with the bartender!" Do you think they'd let me in?!?

No, they'd probably think I was gay though. Thanks.

I have zero pull - to the point that I can't even get people into the lounge anymore. Hell, I have season tickets to the Monarchs and I can't even get in the lounge without running it by the bosses beforehand.

Will do Jay. I keep telling myself that someday I'll learn more than 11 drinks, but that day hasn't come yet. It's been the same three of us since the place opened in 2001, but I'll keep you posted. One dude here is like 70...

Grandpa: Bacon! A whole damn plate! And I usually drink my dinner. Now according to all of them flat-belly experts, I should've took a dirt nap like thirty years ago. But each year comes and goes, and I'm still here. Ha! And they keep dyin'. You know? Sometimes I wonder if God forgot about me. Just goes to show you, huh?

John: What?

Grandpa: Huh?

John: Goes to show you what?

Grandpa: Well it just goes... what the hell are you talkin' about?

John: Well you said you drink beer, you eat bacon and you smoke cigarettes, and you outlive most of the experts.

Grandpa: Yeah?

John: I thought maybe there was a moral.

Grandpa: No, there ain't no moral. I just like that story. That's all. Like that story.
