License to carry in NH

So I will be turning 21 in less than three months and I would like to get my License to carry/Concealed weapons license. How hard is it to do this in NH? What should I put on the application as a good reason other than I want to be able to carry my gun around?

License to carry in NH

Most people put "for all lawful purposes" as the reason. Some states are not accepting that anymore. NH probably has no problem with that though.
Are you a resident or non-resident? Residents go to their local PD for the application ,but non-residents I believe have to go to the State police to apply. A carry permit in NH does not allow you to carry in Mass So don't even try it unless you like the inside of jail cells.

I am a NH resident. I don't plan on carrying in MA unless I get an out of state permit from MA which I am guessing is fairly hard to get.

Getting a 'carry' permit in NH is simple. No worries...

So should I fill out the form and bring it to the Nashua PD, or to a state trooper barrack?

That depends. How is your relationship with the Nashua PD? If they dislike you you're not getting one.

6 days! I hate MA. It took my friend close to 4 months and even then he could only get the FID card. He even knew a bunch of the cops in our town too! I'm gona try to get a class A but I don't see it happening, since I'm not exactly on some of the cops good side. I don't even want to carry on me either, it'd just be nice to not have to be limited so much as to what kind of firearm I could get . The closest firing range to me is about 10 miles down the road from me

I have a MA FID card - had it since I was 16. MA takes a LONG ass time for anything with guns because MA hates guns and loves to deny your rights to everything. I HATE MA.

Hope your FID is up to date, they expire now too. Just like the LTC's.

It doesn't really exist. Nashua is fairly large, and I only know one cop well. I haven't been pulled over for almost 3 years in Nashua, and haven't been given a written warning for almost 4 years.

That means you have one of the old FID cards and it has expired. You would have to take a safety course and re-apply to get a new one.

He speaks the truth. That is the FID card that MA gave you at one time for life. Well, MA decided that the FID life expired a few years back.
When those expired (Your Birthday some years ago) they gave you something like 30-60 days to apply for a new one. If you want a new one on top of all the things rjh200 said, it's gonna cost you $100.00 for 5 years. Doesn't matter if it's an FID or ALP/LTC it's still the same cost. MA law also has an FID just for MACE, its illegal to carry mace without it but the price on that is cheaper.

It is even worse if you live out of state and apply for the FID/LTC. It is $100 every year. They don't give more than one year for out of state applicants.

Looks like I won't even bother to try to get one in MA after I get the NH one. According to law, I don't have to be 21 to get a LTC in NH. Maybe I will go apply this weekend?

Yup...Everything expired after the laws changed in 98, IIRC.

As I understand it, the non resident LTC in MA is $100/year, and it takes months to renew...Every year... It is supposedly easier to get an unrestricted Class A as a non resident because you deal directly with the state police and not the local CLEO.

The reason I bought my house in NH was because of the Mass gun laws.
Dont even try in Mass. It is a huge Pain in the Ass for a non resident. I looked in to it two years ago, I called 3 differnt townships and the state cops and none of them had a clue and none told the same story.
I dont bother to carry when I ride in Ma, but some time I do when I ride in NH.

License to carry in NH

When DH and I first got our class A LTC's 5 years ago in MA, we had to go to a safety class in Lowell first and then apply through the Billerica police. It was fairly easy and fast the first time to get it through the town, but when I went to renew this year, it took about 4 months and cost $100! We've been told that Billerica is fairly liberal with them and the police will give it to you for any reason so long as you don't have a criminal or abuse history...I think we put "recreational target shooting" and "all lawful purposes" on the application. I haven't carried in about 4 years anyway and that was only when we were going to the gun club, but I did use it to get Mace for the store and that was helpful...
