Dock Building...

Okay, we've been through this before. We need someone that's well versed in building docks to c'mon up to the house and give us some direction. We went through this a coupla years ago, and ended up just kinda 'fixing' things to get by. This year - due to the constantly changing temps - our dock's had it. We hafta start over. We're basically down to a pile of scrap lumber now...

We're at the end of a cove so it takes a beating when the ice 'plates' move in & out. Actually, this wasn't a good winter for docks on our lake...

I'd like to go with something removable. We can't go with a floating dock 'cuz of our location, and we're gonna hafta incorporate steps into it as we've got a 2 foot or so drop to the water from our shoreline...

We're looking for someone that's familiar with building docks who can actually come up and help us out in one capacity or another. We'll be taking delivery on the new boat in a coupla weeks, and we don't wanna hafta park it at our neighbor's or at the local 'marinas'...

You can buy extruded aluminum dock sections.

I'm thinking semi-floating. Something that'll mount loosely to pilings, so it can slide up & down on them as needed. Probably more likely to build a ramp down to it rather than stairs too...

Already seen both of those. I'd like to try to use the lumber from the deck we're tearing down and even from any recycleable material from the dock...

Aloooooominium set ups seem a bit pricey...

Are you allowed to put pressure treated in the water? I believe that is illegal because of the chemicals use to treat it.

Department of Environmental Services Fact Sheet

yes, you can use CCA type C pressure treated lumber

Copper Cromated Arsenic is not water soluble like creosote, you can't use creosote treated, but they don't make it anymore anyway

CCA (the green stuff) has always been allowed in NH, infact encouraged cause it is not water soluable, it stays in the wood

I believe is is illegal in some states, uninformed environmentalists see the words cromated and arsenic and freak out

I've been known to reveal my super-secret patented dock design if given a few margaritas.
It's very stable, and I can install and remove it yearly alone, and without getting wet. (by using a small boat or canoe...otherwise you'll get wet) It's 16' x 6' in 3 sections and does not require any alterations to the shoreline or any special hoists or wheels, etc. It stacks up nicely on the shore for the winter.
You'll need to buy some special brackets, so you are looking at spending at least $100 for hardware even if you already have all the wood you need. I strongly recommend you use Trex (or any other similar composite decking) for the decking as it won't give splinters to Tova, Kelsey, and lil' jr. I probably spent a few hundred dollars total on mine for everything, but that was 6 years ago when wood was a little cheaper.
Grab your 1800 and stop by sometime and we'll talk...

My friend used to populate Mamroneck NY with floating docks that had a welded pipe 20 ft gang plank.

Acting as a ramp it took care of all height and tied variations. Then they just pulled/slid it up on the lawn at end oy season
