Gas prices... so depressing

I know I haven't been here in ages. (Been lurking/viewing lately) but I am so depressed and I just need top rant about it. My ridiculous little 2004 Toyota Corolla which I bought to save money now costs $29.00 to fill and when I bought her in August of '03 it only cost $14.00!!!! I am so sick of this BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok rant over. Thank you for reading.

Yes but the diff is:

My car: marketed as economical.

Your truck: not so much.

Last september when I went to Deal's Gap last I thought to myself "Man, I'm glad I won't ever have to pay $3.00 a gallon again next time I go to the Gap!"

Oh, shit, look at the prices! Just in time for my next Gap trip!!! How awesome!!!!

it is depressing, it cost more for one gallon of gas than it used to cost to fill my first car

I remember the advertizements VW used to have "two pennies a mile" not just for gas, total operating cost

now it costs 4 times as much to will up a motorcycle

I also remember Jack Benny's "I'll have a gallon"

a liter ( YES A " LITER" ) of gas in Brazil cost about R$7,00 ( Reais ) i wont exchange for dollar but you get the idea 7,00 ! for a liter of regular gas...

Gas still very high priced but , think this way , how much it cost a gallon of Orange Juice ? (+/- $5,00 ) a gallon of Milk (+/- $4,00 ) and you will see that gas is just one more in the LIST ...

( most cars in Brazil are 1000 engines 1.0 liter , wonder why !?! )

The difference between a gallon of milk & a gallon of gas is that we don't drink 5 gallons of milk in a typical day

The reason that gas prices are so low in this country as compared to most of the world is that most other countries tax their gasoline in proportion to the cost of building and maintaining the transportation infrastructure.

Whereas, in this country, roads are built and maintained primarily from income and property tax pools. There is a small tax on gasoline but with the exception of diesel fuel it is not close to in proportion to the cost of building national roads.

This is why public transportation fails in this country, because a massive subsidy of private transportation makes public transportation much less attractive. You hear about the feds bailing out Amtrak but rarely do we stop to think about the billions of dollars pumped into road maintenance every year.

As much as I like low gas prices I think it's foolish, real estate values and income levels have nothing to do with fuel consumption, tax gasoline to pay for our road infrastructure and lower the income/property taxes accordingly. Let the people who use the roads pay for them, and the best method of doing this (without a massive system of tolls) is to tax gasoline.

As a result, you would (eventually, we have a culture of personal vehicles born out of cheap government-subsidized road and disposable income) see a gradual rise in the availability of mass transportation systems, reducing the demand for gasoline and allowing people who don't want to pay the gas prices to find alternate modes of travel.

You'd also see more motorcycles and less motorcycle-crushing SUVs.

...Oh, wait, this thread is about high gas prices...Well in that case, for all you people in this thread who make less than me and own less property, quit your bitchin, I'm paying your fair share of the road maintenance costs And for those who make more and own more property than I...thanks for the free ride!

A tick over $80 to fill my 30 gallon tank on the pick-up this weekend. If I'm lucky, I'll get 300 miles outta it...

I hate that it takes me 2 swipes of the credit card to fill up the tank in my truck at a lot of stations.

Honclfibr Please refrain from repartee during a rant

The fact that business, oil, and economics experts predicted this exact result when Johnson started his war on prosperity 40 years ago is no reason we shouldn't be surprised today.
