looking for a cage

well, my 82 BMW 320i got rearended in my driveway, for a 24 year old vehicle with 322,000 miles it is likely totaled even though is is very drivable

BUT it made my decision if I was going to spend any more money keeping up with maintenance on it.

Now I am looking to replace it,

looking for dependable & economical cage, FRONT WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT AN OPTION, I will not even consider it

my preferences are an older BMW (318, std trans) or Volvo (740) but possibly a puckup truck

I am so out of touch, I don't even know what trucks might be out there, looking for a 4banger not a 6

I looked at an 88 Mercedes 190D a couple days ago, but they wanted about double what the NADA value was, and I am kind leary about mercedes being as economical to maintain as a BMW, there doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much aftermarket support

If you can find one free of rust a mid to late 80's volve 240 might be worth considering. As for trucks, older and used - the 4 cylinder Toyotas are tough to kill (reference the episode of Top Gear where they tried), watch for rust. Good Luck...

My Dad has a mid to late 80's BME 325e, 5 speed. Miles are unknown, and it needs a windshield, but the body is excellent, and it seems to run and drive ok.

You'd have to be a big spender, though - he wants a whopping $200 for it. It has no title, which doesn't matter in VT or NH, but is a big deal in NY.

240 is worthy of consideration, but I like the 740 body better, other than body, they are identical vehicles almost

if I could find a toyota 2wd/extra cab/longbed 4cyl. std.

all that's required is bill of sale, to get a 20 day tag, then take car to inspection station and have them fill out VIN verification form, then you can get regular registration
