REMEMBER

62 years ago today so many men gave their lives fighting for our freedom. Remember DDay and all it's defeats and successes (sp?). Thanks to all that serve currently, to all those that fought before and to those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks Pops

Damn Will that is a nice shadow box.
I got my dads ribbons and a few medals (some fuck stole a lot of it when he returned from the war) and I want to make something like that.
How old is you dad?(When did he serve? You should ask him to write down his experiences in the war, even if he wont show you till hes gone. Somewhere my dad jotted down some of the action he went through in Germany.
He died last year at 84 just before his 55th wedding aniversary.
A lot of memories from that time have slipped away.

You can get all of his medals replaced if you have his service records, if you don't have his records contact the VA and they will be able to help you..

Beet,
My grand dad was over there also through some of the bloodiest fighting in the war.
Gman- I am just starting to dig to find stuff. His paper work is home at my mom's. A lot of Veterns files where lost in a fire back in the 70's.
I dont know how much I can find but I did find a website to his old division, the 76th.
It is amazing what those guys did.

I had the box made for him and that's my granddad. Over the past coupla years he has beaten Leukemia and Guillome Berets (sp?) Syndrome. Docs atributed it to his health - goes to the gym 6 days a week. He the shit. Theya re actually using him as a test case for the drug they had him on for the leukemia because they said they've never seen someone recover so fast.

He was one of the first on Omaha Beach cause his ship got sank. He was a flagger on a ship, it got shot, he swam a mile into the shit, got shot, and kept goin. Amazing person.

I keep telling him and urging him to write shit down. I listen to his stories over and over again. He is personal friends with the mayor of France and has stayed at his house for a couple of the DDay reunions. He has received commandations from several countries and has given me a couple of the originals.

Here he is dancing with my sister at her wedding 2 years ago.

My grandad was in the Irish paramilitary during the irish war of independance, serving under Michael Collins. info here He was imprisoned by the British at Portlaoise prison for running guns for the IRA. He was 13 years old at the time. My dad has his diary from prison. I have a commendation from the Fianna Eireann (Irish Replublican Army) given to my grandad and signed by the IRA's chief of staff at the time. It is one of my most prized possessions.
