I'm assuming that should mean it's about 850$ or so at buy time.

Me - I'll wait 4-5 months and buy a refurbished one for 550$

I'm happy with my Quest 2. And at $500, that was pushing it. $1k? (or even $900) fuck that.

Tom Tom also has one called the Rider.. waterproof, UI designed for use with gloves, etc..

I think it is also expensive but some people already have it unlike the Zumo and it looks rather slick.

No way I would buy something this expensive without seeing it and letting someone else be the guinea pig.

(Like I need GPS anyway)

More likely with the traffic we have I would just cry when I got home and looked at the GPS to show an average speed no faster then a bicycle.

I actually have a GPS. Riding down to Deal's gap with RandyO made me realize I didn't need it. Randy would be done with his mapcheck and ready to leave and I'd still be trying to figure out where I was with the GPS or operate it. After a few hundred miles I stuffed it in my bag and just used paper maps.

The thing with public roads in the US is you basically always nowhere you are unless you are clueless! It's not like airplanes or boats where you can seemingly have no idea where you are, might not be able to tell exactly how fast you are going, might not have good landmarks for navigation, etc..

The obsession with putting them in cars at the moment to me is just more "nanny society" people are frightened to death they might get lost and have to ask for directions!

I really only use mine to see how many miles I rode and where the hell I went. I tend to go up to NH and VT and just, err, explore. It's also quite handy for when it's getting late at night and I haven't the foggiest idea where I am.

I used 60CS last week to get me from Brockton to Hyde Park to Dorchester to Alston.

I would have never been able to figure this out since I'm really clueless about Boston but Garmin gave me turn by turn directions and it was perfect.

Why fuss with a bundle of paper maps?

Press FIND, type in the address and I just follow the arrows.
