some pics of tonight's excitement...

So we're sitting here and out of the corner of our eyes we notice SOMEthing run out of the kitchen and across the dining room. I went to find it, and sure enough it was this totally cute little mouse. Here's a few pics (and yeah I'm a fuckin' pussy cuz I wore my badass racing gloves to pick up a mouse that's smaller than my thumb).

Now all you need is a piece of string and an empty paper towel roll.

hahaha

he blocked off the doorways to the kitchen and the living room, which left it only a few places to go... either the bathroom, outside off the deck or hide in a corner. He chose to be dumb and keep running and hiding under things ... back himself into a corner but it was soooooooooo funny watching Josh try to get at the lil mouse with his riding gloves on - took him a few tries to finally pick it up and then the mouse wouldnt let go of his glove haha

Oh yeah....all wild animals are diseased. This little fucker has been living in luxury as mice habitation goes. And basically, I chased him around (he was literally smaller than my thumb...I think he's a youngin) for a few minutes then he climbed up my glove while I was trying to pick him up. Then he just clung there once I stood up...as I'm sure he was aware it would be a bad idea to let go while 5' off the ground.

And I picked 'im up with my gloves on...how does that put me at risk for disease?

besides the fact that you were all worried telling it not to run down into your glove.... no harm besides a lil excitement and uhmmm wasted time?

you don't know where that thing's been living before he stumbled on your humble abode. he could've been in a corn field, or in a trash can.

either way, ain't no way in hell i'm picking up one of those fuckers if i saw it in my house. unless it was a dead one from the D-Con i left out for it.

BTW - why is everything purple in that other pic?

That's about as big as mice get... my cousin had a bunch of them as pets... don't know what she was thinking.

Guess they were OK pets, kind of like mini-hamsters, but they eventually chewed off their ears and gross stuff like that.

That depends on the kind of mouse. I've seen them much bigger than this one was (twice as big, same kind of mouse).

Sure it wasn't a rat?

As for the camera... Did you use the flash? If so, the rest of the picture is most likely under-exposed. The fact that it turned purple could just be that camera or it could be the light bulbs in the room or something like that.

The lighting deal is an effect called 'solarization', though I'm not sure how it got turned on for those pics. It's an effect built in the camera that you can turn on and off.

And yes, I'm sure it wasn't a rat. While I might appear to be your basic sheltered computer nerd, I had many years of real life experience before I ever even sent hand on a computer. I fucking KNOW what a rat is, and I know what a mouse is.

Well tell me the difference cause all I know is rats are supposed to be bigger...

I wasn't trying to say this one was a rat. One thing I DO know is there are an awful lot of species of rats and mice, they are all very related, and pretty similar, so unless you get one in a cage, or hold it, and examine it closely, it's easy to mistake one for the other.

it's not easy to mistake them - i duno where you've been living that you think you have to hold up one and examine it to tell the difference...

Rats are typically MUCH bigger than even a large mouse of that species. I've had various species of mice and rats as pets, rescued from the cat, etc. I was brought up in an animal-loving household...so I've dealt first hand with lots of different animals. Even had a pet chipmunk once....man that thing was AWESOME! Seriously as affectionate, if not more so...than a cat.

yeah, but don't the high, squeaky voices make chipmunks annoying pets?

especially when they piss donald off, and laugh hysterically...
