anyone know anything about a crane service?

Nazo needs to get a hottub from the back of a pickup truck or from his driveway lifted onto his deck. Probably 9-10 feet up. The driveway is at a downhill slant as well. Anyone have any ideas? It weighs about 400lbs.

Even a bunch of guys standing in the pickup bed couldn't lift it high enough to get it onto the porch. And i can't image a way to rig a pully to lift it higher than where the pulley would need to be hung from.

I'm guessing it won't fit through a door if you stand it up on it's side. A dolly on the floors and rolling it through the house aren't an option?

I've seen some pretty creative uses of an engine hoist (bolted to the deck) with a pulley, cableing, and a come-along or winch. I've even seen the cable hooked to the bumper of a pickup and the truck SLOWLY drives away. Good luck... I've also seen a few of these as a "Hey Y'all watch this" moments.

Jay, contact a local Nations Rent and see what they have available for rental. Sounds like even a mini-excavator would do the trick. (you would have to rig up straps around the tub which is easy enough) You can prolly rent those for a 1/2 day. Nations can be expensive, so it wouldn't hurt to check some other rental places in Nazo's area. They will also deliver and pick-up the equipment for you. If you need someone to run it, give me a call.

a bunch of guys, a couple ladders, planks or something to use as a ramp or buy yourself with chain fall or ratchet straps

I built a 30ft long beam x 6" wide x 22" tall out of plywood & 2x6s on the ground and lifted it into place 12feet in the air all by myself with planks for sliding ramps and ratchet straps, it was back & forth each end up 2ft at a time and took me 2 hours, but I got it there

you can't lift something with straps when you're trying to lift it higher than any point to connect the straps. If you know of a way i'm all ears. And no, a 7 person hottub will not fit through the door.

a mini excavator wouldn work, I doubt they have the reach, however most rental places have lifting platforms mase specificly for that purpose, sounds like one that works on unlevel ground would be needed

I passed the movers and the rental place on to Chris. It would need to be something that worked on unlevel ground. The deck is above the top of his driveway kindof like a carport. The driveway is steep coming up to it and levels off under the porch.

First geniuses it weighs 4000 pounds when its full of water.

I suggest you empty it before you put it on the deck.

Empty it weighs a few hundred.

remove deck railing

Get a pick up truck... 4 guys put it hanging off the back of the bed.

Back up to the deck tilt the front so it catches the deck edges

everybody behind and alley oop and slide.

Note Most decks must be reinforced for a hot tub.
More lag bolts in the house ledger board.
Sister up the rim joist and supports
I even installed 8 inch joists in between the 12's so they were on
8 inch centers staggered.

LMAO - he never said anything about 4,000 lbs. The initial post says 400 lbs. Even filled with water I highly doubt it weighs 4000lbs.

As for the rest of your advice I agree. Its 10ft from the ground should only be about 7 from the bed of the truck.

I think we can get over the "Pick it up" ideas. Like I said we considered it and it won't reach and will not work, but thank you, I would have never thought to try doing it that way unless it was recommended six times.

What do I know?? They cost a hell of a bunch.

We use Collins Crane out of Bridgewater to hoist rooftop condensor units and on average costs us about 700.00-800.00

+1. I think most yards will send a truck w/ no delivery charge if you reach a minimum amount of building supplies (~$300 worth from what I'm used to). Might be a good option if he happens to need lumber or other supplies...kill 2 birds.

The truck should be able to handle the hot tub, but you would need to throw the guy a few bucks for his time.
