MA truck lift law?

It seems like we have at least a few people on here that know something about off-roading 4x4s.

So....what is the legal max lift height allowed in MA?

I've got two dodge ramchargers at my disposal to create at least one badass offroad rig. One is an '82? which doesn't run and the other is a '91? which does run.

Legally 2" above or below stock ride height, including tires. However if it's done reasonably and looks proportional most Police and inspection stations won't hasstle you. My friend had a 4" with 35" tires on a Superduty with no hastle, but a 6" with 37" tires would have definately caught too much attention.

MA truck lift law?

i get hassled at every inspection, semi-failed once, for a Rubicon with a 3.5" lift and 33s. my Jeep doesn't look anywhere near as high as some of the pickups i see on the road. they put a measuring stick from ground to bottom of door.

i forget the height limit but the bottom of my door is right at the limit. i'll measure later.

(12) Altered Vehicle Heights. The original manufacturers specified height of motor vehicles with an original manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less shall not be altered by elevating or lowering the chassis or body by more than two inches, except that 4-wheel drive motor vehicles with a original manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less may be altered in accordance with the provisions of 540 CMR 6.00. The Registrar may periodically provide approved altered vehicle height specifications for said 4-wheel drive vehicles. Any motor vehicle altered, modified, or changed beyond the aforementioned two inches, or the Registrar's approved altered height specifications, shall be rejected.

Personally, my Jeep has a 4" lift and 33" tires and I haven't had any issues with inspections.

i guess i just gotta keep getting mine inspected in the sticks.

LuvDog, they've NEVER put the ruler to your Jeep? guess i'd been going to the wrong places. Shrewsbury and Westboro gave me hassles with the ruler, no issue in Holden though.

MA truck lift law?

Thanks for the help guys. I looked up 540 CMR 6.00 and according to that...

"The maximum mechanical lift for four wheel drive motor vehicles
shall be calculated by multiplying the wheel base times the wheel track, and dividing the product by a safety factor of 2200:

i.e., 92" w/b x 58" w/t = 5336/2200 = 2" (maximum mechanical lift).

The outside diameter of the largest tire size available from the original manufacturer as standard or optional equipment for the particular motor vehicle may also be increased up to an amount equal to the maximum mechanical lift calculated.

So my WB = 106 "
WT = 65? " (I was measuring it myself so might not be exact)

106" WB x 65" WT = 6890 / 2200 Safety factor = 3.13"

So a 3" max mechanical lift and + 3" on the stock tire diameter if I am interpreting that right. I don't know what the largest OEM size tire you could get on a Ramcharger so I'll take a guess and say either 31" or 32". I guess I could go with either 34s or 35s and be ok.

Now....who makes the best and cheapest lift kit?

Them's some funky stuff!

In NH, the ORIGINAL *UNALTERED* frame, in front of the front axle and behind the rear axle can be no higher than 31" from the ground...

Mine has been legally inspected in I-can't-remember-how-long...

MA truck lift law?

I just had both my vehicles inspected this week with no issues!
It all has to do with location! PM me and I can give you the good spot in Framingham!

My F150 is lifted 3" with 34" tires,
The Jeep has a 1" lift and 31" tires and they didn't measure either, or look to see if the floor of the jeep was rotting away!!!! That shall be fixed soon anyhow.

Next year I may have an issue with the jeep as I plan to have 4" of lift by then. Who knows?

Cool. I just sent you a PM. This truck will not be my primary transportation so I'll pretty much only use it for off-roading. I just don't want to get hassled by the man to/from off-road areas, wherever they may be. Speaking of which, I'll have to find some.

I went with a Skyjacker lift for my YJ.

I was going to go with Rancho, but for the money it seemed like Skyjacker was the way to go. Of course, I lifted my Jeep 16 years ago... so your options are probably different now.

Mike... I wouldn't worry about the 4" lift... like I said... I've got a 4" suspension lift and I haven't had a problem.

Ok I have a new question. I know I can legally get a 3" lift now. And can probably get away with a 4". Those of you who off-road, do you find 4" provides enough clearance or have you ever wished for more? Is more better anyways? I'm really just starting out in this 4x4 thing and don't know much.

Since I wont be driving this truck all that often, pretty much to/from off-roading places I could prob put a larger lift in it and get it inspected in the sticks like people have mentioned.

it depends on what you want to do and where you want to go.

before you know it you've got a tubbed surburban with a 454, 44's, 10" of lift, 1 ton axles with lockers front and rear.

Yup. It's never enough. It's like any other addiction. If you can get away with it, go as high as you can. No matter what you end up going with, you'll STILL look at it and want it higher...

to bend the rules of widthxlenght just put bigger axles on or get billet spacers and off-set wheels but then you might be out side the limit of 3inches out side the fenders check mine out sweet
