UFC - Hughes v. Penn

So, while all of you cool kids were out having fun at the racetrack, I was sitting by myself drinking, watching the UFC fight by myself, and secretly praying that BJ Penn would send Matt Hughes back to the farm with his cock in his hand.

Alas, it was not to be.

After punishing Hughes for two rounds, Penn was so spent he basically quit, and Hughes used his face for a speed bag. It was really sad.

I hate Matt Hughes.

Thats because he never is in shape. He needs to train, but says that he hates to do conditioning - and it showed.

I have watched the last 6 UFC fights, and this one was the best yet. 6 really good fights - if you can catch a re-run, its definitely worth it. Mike Swick went three rounds with David Loiseau - it was really impressive, I thought Loiseau would slice his head wide open with those elbows, but Swick was too fast for him. A newcomer (from MA!) beat Jens Pulver in under a minute.

It was all good stuff.

i'd love to catch the replay but adding 40 bucks to my cable bill every month for ppv is alittle much. i'll have to cruise the web and find it fight by fight.

the good thing is in a couple of months you'll see the fights on spike. still exciting even if i know the winners.

I have a DVD recorder thing, and I have the fight saved on my DVR.

I just have to figure out how to work the damn thing, and then I can make you a copy.

UFC - Hughes v. Penn

Yip, best overall UFC in a long time. I actually thought Penn was gonna submit him at the end of the second round. Going into the fight, Hughes was saying he was gonna do exactly what he did. Although he got a bit more beat up than I think even he thought he would. He did say his plan was to wear him down for a coupla rounds then handle him. I'd say he pretty much stuck to that...

Unlike Highsider, I like Hughes. I don't see in him what you do. Oh well...

Surprise of the night goes to the lightweight from Mass. Basically a stand-in, half a no-name, and a HUGE underdog. Less than a minute later, Pulver's in la-la land. If nothing else, Pulver looked and acted like a pro AFTER the fight giving all the credit in the world to the little dude...

Let down of the night was the Swick v. Loiseau fight. I thought it was gonna be a true test for Swick, but Loiseau simply didn't start bringing his game 'til the third round. And even then it was short lived. I know that it's always harder than it seems or looks, but it didn't seem like much of a test for either wunna them. I think Swick pushing a title shot with Franklin right now is a bad career move...

It seems to me that the guys that competed in the TUF shows are getting pushed through and rushed into title shots, bumping people that have legitimate shots and rights to 'em...

exactly my thoughts! i don't know what dana white is thinking sometimes. after the tuff shows are over unless they won the title shot they should start from the bottom again and work for spots on the ppv's.

He's thinking MONEY. Plain & simple. The participants on the TUF shows get national television exposure. Thus, more people will be willing to shell out for pay-per-view events in that they know exactly's who's fighting. A lot of so-called fans no nothing about the UFC outside of the TUF shows. When those same people hear that Joe Schmoe from TUF is fighting on pay-per-view, they're more apt to buy it...

All about the money...

I dont like Matt Hughes because of his coaching on TUF2. I thought he was a total dick to everyone involved, particularly when he said about 3 shows in "I haven't lost anyone I didn't want to lose." (When referring to his own team.)

I am a little biased because I occasionally attend a class put on by one of the participants who lost on TUF2, and I though Hughes was especially a dick to him.

On that same note, I hated Tito Ortiz until he was a coach on TUF. I was really impressed by his coaching skills, and he realyl seemed like a good guy; he gave all of his fighters the best training he could. Its one thing to have an attitude on fight night; its quite another to piss on people you are supposed to be helping.

well if he keeps this shit up he's going to turn it into pro wrestling. once a month ppv is to much. should be atleast three months between major events with a stacked fight card not just one main event.

seems like instead of building the ufc for the long haul he's trying to cash in quick while its popular. fuckin shame.

I felt the same about both of them for the same reasons. I thought Hughes was a complete arrogant fuck on TUF. I feel though that it was more a case of just demanding the best from his 'team'...

Same with Ortiz. I hated that fukker 'til he coached on TUF. I feel totally different about the dude now...

I think Shamrock is a dick, but I cant wait until the rematch on the 10th. I think Shamrock is hungry to retire on a positive note, and I think he'll bring as much of an A game as he has left.

Tito seems like a genuinely good guy who talks an enormous amount of shit, then backs it up.

I especially enjoyed Tito holding up a BJ Penn t-shirt during the Hughes/Penn fight.

yeah shamrock did look like a major dick with alot of ego. what fighter doesn't have a ton of ego problem was i don't think shamrock wanted to be a coach. he just wanted to fight tito and tito came off so well because he liked coaching.

i really hope shamrock wins so he can go out a winner. again i'm not really a shamrock fan but can you imagine how pissed tito would be if he lost and couldn't get a rematch!
