Then check this out:

http://www.bidnearby.com

It's my latest pet project. Lets you search for local ebay listings, and ovelays them on a map of your area, so you can see exactly where stuff is.

It should be pretty useful when you're shopping for things like cars, bikes, or other things which you want to check out in person first, or if you don't want to deal with shipping on whatever you're looking for.

Give me some feedback, as always... if you like it, tell your friends

And yes, I'll be adding more robustness to it later, like some sort of search category chooser to help weine out some of the "crap results."

Very cool... the one thing I would add is a listing of the items below the map also. Not sure how feasible this is, although I imagine it shouldn't be too tough since you gotta retrieve the data from ebay to begin with.

Thinking from an end user perspective, I don't necessarily care what's closest to me (relatively speaking) since I am probably looking for something specific, but then having the visual cue and popup is icing on the cake. I entered a generic term "Civic" (something that you shouldn't do to begin with, but hey, I am a stupid end user) and got results from stickers to cars, so I needed to click on each one to see if it was what I am looking for.

Being a developer myself, I realize this is an early version and I always hate it when the business bitches about what something doesn't do when you tell them up front is an early prototype

Okeedoky, just made a few upgrades. Marvel at the list of items below the map. Clicking links on which will open the popup above the item on the map and center it there.

Hah, that's kinda funny... I actually put my resume on Monster for shits and giggles this sunday. In the last two days, about 12 different recruiters contacted me.

But, I actually can't start a job until June/July or so, since I'm still in my last semester of school now. I think I already have some jobs planned, though... my business partner may end up funding our ventures (aka, paying my salary), so I may do that... and I'm interviewing with Microsoft this Monday for shits and giggles. But, if none of that pans out, I'll ping you April-May-ish...

PS. I ain't taking any job for less than $80k

Very cool! You may want to replace the little green and red "balloons" with somehting else..It's kinda tricky to click on them when there are mulitple listings in one location. When I click on the "balloon" it would be nice to see the "Buy it Now" if it exists. Also would be nice to see the town/city in the pop up...How often does the page refresh?

So, I just added a craigslist module to this thing. So, if you live near a CL city, you'll see results from craigslist on there, as well.

That is really cool. I'm running IE7 through Win XP Pro 64 and Im getting warnings from IE that your site could be a phishing website. They are coming up yellow though, not red.

It ran fast for me as well.

Add an option to choose a radius from the specified zip code and this would be the cat's ass. When I enter my hillbilly zip, it doesn't return many results.
