Reply:

Dear Concerned Student:
Sorry,

I am not allowed in schools!

Sincerely,

God

----------------------------------------------------------

How did this get started?...

-----------------

Let's see,
I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained
She didn't want any prayer in our schools.

And we said, OK.

------------------

Then, someone said you better not

Read the Bible in school,
The Bible that says
"thou shalt not kill,
Thou shalt not steal,
And love your neighbors as yourself,"

And we said, OK...

-----------------

Dr. Benjamin Spock said
We shouldn't spank our children
When they misbehaved
Because their little personalities
Would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem.

And we said,
An expert should know what he's talking about
So we won't spank them anymore..

------------------

Then someone said
Teachers and principals better not
Discipline our children when they misbehave.
And the school administrators said
No faculty member in this school
Better touch a student when they misbehave
Because we don't want any bad publicity,
And we surely don't want to be sued.

And we accepted their reasoning...

------------------

Then someone said,
let's let our daughters have abortions if they want,
And they won't even have to tell their parents.

And we said, that's a grand idea.

------------------

Then some wise school board member said,
Since boys will be boys
And they're going to do it anyway,
let's give our sons all the condoms they want,
So they can have all the fun they desire,
And we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school.

And we said, that's another great idea...

------------------

Then some of our top elected officials said
It doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs.

And we said,
It doesn't matter what anybody, including the President,
Does in private as long as we have jobs and the economy is good....

------------------

And someone else took that appreciation a step further
And published pictures of nude children
And then stepped further still by
Making them available on the Internet.

And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech....

------------------

And the entertainment industry said,
let's make TV shows and movies that promote
Profanity, violence and illicit sex...
And let's record music that encourages
Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes...

And we said,
it's just entertainment
And it has no adverse effect
And nobody takes it seriously anyway,
So go right ahead.

------------------

Now we're asking ourselves
Why our children have no conscience,
Why they don't know right from wrong,
And why it doesn't bother them to
Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves.

------------------

Undoubtedly,
If we thought about it long and hard enough,
We could figure it out.
I'm sure it has a great deal to do with...

"WE REAP WHAT WE SOW"

A few of you guys should a got a good ass kicking.

controversial yes...but...

Thanks for the read.

I would go ballistic if one teacher was to touch one hair of my daughters heads. Teachers being in control of their classroom and doing discipline yes, but not physically.

And by the way, my daughter's school still recite the pledge of allegiance every morning, out loud, in their school, with one student doing it on the microphone, and I can hear them say "God".

Well im gonna make this short and sweet. God didn't write this or any other document. I don't subscribe to any higher power. I saw, heard and enjoyed most of the entertainment you describe above. I don't have a violent streak running through me or a lack of feeling for the rest of humanity (althought there are plenty of ignorant people out there). Last time i checked we were still arresting a$$holes that abuse children in any way and in prison they get special attention from the other inmates.

Teachers don't get paid enough to raise your children! Maybe if parents took a little responsibility for their creation and actually raised their own children we wouldn't have these kind of issues.

This is whats wrong with this country no one want to accept responsibility for their actions anymore. Stop blaming everyone else for not taking care of their own shit!!!

PS i guess that wasn't very short

PPS maybe this should get sent to controversial

You're right...nobody wants to be responsible for anything...(parents OR teachers, but not everyone is like that of course) for one, I am thinking that all the children failing in schools around this city is attribuable to what the parents AREN'T doing at home with their children. Ex: not revising homework at night with their kids, not helping them studying for a coming test, not checking if the homework was done completly and on time, etc. I'm always amazed when my daughter tells me how many students in her class regularly do not remit their homework to the teacher because they didn't do it, period. In my house, not doing your assigned homework is NOT an option. Not studying for a test is NOT an option. But one thing that pisses me off is that her teacher do not allow them to write down in their agenda their homework so they can remember what to do/study. I don't like the school at all. Starting December 1st, they do not allow kids to go play outside because "it's too cold" and also because "there is ice on the grounds and it's a liability issue" WHY are my kids not allowed to have gym or recess out side when there is snow? Because the shcool is AFRAID that if something was to happend to one kid slipping on the ice, the parents would be coming back and sueing their ass!! How fucked up is that. Accidents happen. Kids play, kids get hurt, kids get up kiss boo-boo's and go back to play. Where is the time where all the kids were PUSHED to go play outside, get some exercise and develop social skills making and playing friends while in school, along with learning academics?? My children barely get any time to socialize during school hours, they have 20 minutes to eat lunch, and that's the only break they get, and they have to keep silent while eating!! WTF?? Another thing that really upsets me, teachers do not communicate with the parents. You have no clue of how your child is doing in school, you have no clue if your child is being sent to the principal's office, nobody tells you if your child is having difficulties until they are about to fail ! You have to stalk the teacher to get any infos on your child's progress, and even then, they are very evasive, almost like non-chalant. Don't get me wrong, they are NOT all like this, but at least at the school where my daughters go, tehre are far too many of those. One of my daughter's teacher last year was constantly on her cell phone talking during school hours, and crying in front of the kids because she had just gotten in an argument with her boyfriend, she was going to sit down on the floor in the coat room of her classroom to cry after a conversation on her cell phone, while the kids were left wondering wtf was going on with her. This is a 50-something yrs-old teacher mind you...And when parents tried to speak to the principal about this, she's siding with her personnel.

Yeah I know...holy f**ing long rant. Sorry. (I could go on and on with this!)

In a way, it's not the school's fault they don't allow the kids to go out in the snow/ice. It's because it's such a litigious society we're in, they probably either have already had complaints/lawsuits on that, or it's just bound to happen. It is sad how quick people are to sue.

I have a lawyer friend who got a client a few thousand for getting a mosquito bite in CVS. What happened is the guy went to the pharmacy to complain because the bite was getting red, and they swabbed him with something. So they settled out of court because they shouldn't have swabbed him not knowing his allergies.

OMFG....people are fucked up. Get sued for trying to help...how sad.

My daughter was getting straight A and B's, a few C's in Quebec. Her teacher was regularly sending little notes home in her agenda, regarding her progress in class. They were getting half an hour lunch, and HAD TO go outside and play. Warm or cold weather. Stayed in only if it rains or if temps are extreme. Kids were not allowed to come to school not dressed appropriatly for the weather, because parents know their kids will go out to play every day. All the schools are like that. There is very little failure percentage. Teachers and parents work togueter very closely.

I noticed that schools outside of my area (out of Springfield) seems to do much better, not even comparable. You go out in smaller communities in the suburbs and the country living, it changes drastically, grades are much higher and quality of life for the students seems to be present. I already arrange for my oldest daughter to go to a suburb middle school next year. I will be transporting her back and forth every day to and from school. She is NOT going to a Springfield middle/high school and will NOT get onto any school bus.

Allow me to raise some easy to read, clear points while I drink my coffee and wake up.

1) Springfield schools are a mess, and they have been for 20+ years. I ended up going to Catholic school from 3rd-8th grade because my mother was so disgusted with the lack of progress made in public schools. We had recess, and unless there was a serious threat of someone freezing to death, we played outside, usually football, in a parking lot, and no one ever got really hurt.

2) I also don't subscribe to any higher power. It seemed like the more I learned about the Catholic Religion the fishier it got. Over time, with archeoligists findings, and radioactive dating, science has been able to disprove alot of the bible's teachings. The Catholic Church has an easy fix for this though. Before it was disproved, Noah's Ark was an actual truth to them, it happened. Once disproved, it became "A religious truth", in other words a metaphor.

3) I consider Catholicisim the 3rd most ridiculous religion, right behind the Mormons, and Scientologists.

4) The opening statement of the first letter that said "Where was god when the tragedies at these schools happened," pretty much summed it up. The reply of "God is not allowed in schools" sums up the usual half ass response. Where was my imaginary friend when I had to put my gsxr in the back of a truck? Imaginary friends dont like Gsxr's.

5) Last time I checked, Priests had a problem taking pictures of naked children.

I have no problem with people practicing religion. I do have a problem with it being forced onto other people. If you want to say "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance go ahead. Just allow people to make their own decisions and dont scorn them for making one you dont personally agree with.

Don't believe everything your kids tell you. There is no way a teacher would not let a child write their homework assignments down in their agenda book. The teacher tells the kids to write it down, but some just plain don't. Some because they think they can remember it and are too lazy to write it down, and some because they just know they aren't going to do it anyway. Some parents ask the teacher for a telephone call every time their child is late with homework or does not hand anything in. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. You as a parent are responsible for checking whether you child does their homework, not the teacher. They would spend 50% of their time on the phone if that were the case.

Bear in mind that your child is in a class of 30 or so. That is 20 or so sets of parents that want to talk to the teacher at some time or other. Parents have a habit of just showing up at classrooms when class is going on or when the teacher is doing paperwork at the end of the day. There are parent conferences for that type of thing, and you can always make an appointment to talk with a teacher and principle at other times if you wish. My wife is a 6th grade teacher in the projects in Brockton. A parent made an appointment yesterday to see my wife and his child's other teachers and the principle at 7:15am. The teachers and principle were all there. The father showed up at 10:30 with a "sorry I'm late". How motivated do you think the teachers are after that kind of crap? If your child is sent to the principle's office for anything of any consequence, a report goes home with the child. Again, whether they give it to the parents is another matter.

You should go to the superintendant with these types of complaints if the principle does not give you satisfaction.

Degsy, your wife might be a good teacher and care about her classroom, but it's like everything else (cops, doctors, etc.), there is good and not so good teachers. My daughter's teacher HIMSELF told me he doesn't always allow his students to write down assignments, he wants them to "remember". That's ridiculous, an 11 yrs old child can't always remember page numbers and what not. Even an adult needs to take notes. You know what else I forgot to mention? He barely EVER give homework to his students. His words: "I feel that if my students understand what we've been going thru in class, they don't need to do it again at home". That to me is bullshit. Homework is to re-inforce what students have learned in class, and review it. As a parent, I also feel it's helping me see what she is doing in class, and I can review it with her and therefor, be in a position to better help her. Kids don't learn the same stuff we have learned when we were younger, and teachers say themselves that many parents are complaining about the fact they are frustrated to not be able more times than not, to help their kids with homework, because they don't understand what the kids are bringing home. When my daughter goes to middle school, she will bombarded with homework/assignments. She's got work books I got her that she likes to work with here at home, but it doesn't mean that's what she is seeing in class. One thing I do like about her teacher is that he won't send the kids for stupid litlte things to the principal office, unlike many other teachers. He can DEAL with his students himself and discipline them (altho I don't agree on all points of his discipline) and will give the kids copy and other punishments alike if they don't behave or pay attention in class. He said he do not want the kids to end up with bad remarks on their report cards unless it's something more serious.

Another thing, this school my kids go to, they DO NOT send reports at home with the child after they've been to the principal office. I already asked. I am about to go to the superintendant. I won't put my hopes to high, as they are apparently close friends. This school is all about MCAS tests, and very little about quality of life of their students/relation between parents/teachers. The principal rarely listen to the parents. I've heard so many stories in the court yard, almost on a daily basis. She doesn't even allow parents to sit at the picnic tables next to the playground when they are waiting for their kids to get out of school, or in the morning while the kids run around waiting for the bell to start class.

That is terrible. Did you ask the teacher WHY he does not allow writing down of homework assignments? sounds like he is an idiot.

my advice? if you don't get any help from the principle, talk to the local news people (newspapers, tv) Call them over and over again and they WILL listen when they need a filler story. The more shocking stuff you can come up with, the more interested they will be. Write an editorial yourself (get an English-first language person to proofread it for you :-)) and submit it to the local newspapers (the smaller community ones).

The bottom line is: Education in inner cities is going down the tubes. Your kids are suffering, and they will suffer their entire lives if it is not fixed now. Celluci started it, Swift continued it, Romny is just a fucking idiot and who knows who will be next governor, but I'm not hopeful they will do anything about education. Write to the offices of the Gubernatorial candidates and ask them to visit your kid's school to talk to the principle about the problems.

My 9 year old daughter is in public school for now.. But i assure my 4 year old Son will never set foot in one.. Those that don't think Teachers get paid well.. Look at some of the Town Budget books, i used to look at the one for my town when i was in school cause I was curious what my teachers were making, well it didn't make much sence then, but looking back, those figures are not that bad.. I remember some of the teachers lived near me, I lived in a nice part of town, they were not hurting for money, and they were not living in shitty broken down houses either.. I attended church when i was a kid, "Loved Sunday school" NOT.. I'm not a man of much faith these days. To post up facts dispelling the myth of religion is stupid, It's about faith, something to live for.. Think about what is the point to living if death is all you have to look forward too... It's all about morals and judgement .. My family and kids work as my fatih..

My wife has 2 batchelor's degrees, and a master's in teaching and earns about 45k working in an inner city school. I left school at 15 years old and earn more than double that repairing Xerox machines. What's wrong with that picture? Teachers are NOT well paid. Is there any other profession that pays that badly? Oh yeah, Firemen & Medics. It's a travesty, and it's all politicians that are to blame.

Sadly enough, teachers are making more at entry level than most tech support people that have degrees

I think teachers get paid pretty decent at first but their pay scales don't ever really go up like any other professions would. My woman makes nearly 40k a year, 2nd year outta collegea no-name college, no masters and gets 4 months paid vacation a year with full benefits. She leaves after me every day and is home before 3 most of the time. Not a bad rap if you ask me.

Problem is that she won't increase in pay scale much.
