we went up to northern VT and NH this past weekend, got to within spitting distance of La Belle Province

and it got me to thinking....

25 years ago: On Aug. 27, 1977, The Parti Quebecois government's controversial language bill received final reading in the Quebec National Assembly and was given immediate royal assent.

For those of you unfamiliar with this piece of legislation, it was the death blow to industry in Quebec. All the signs in English had to be removed Labbatt's became "Labatt", "The Bay" (originally the Hudson's Bay Company, oldest company in the New World) became La Baie.... street names had to change. It went on and on. The end result? Most major corporations relocated to Toronto. What a waste, and for what?

I was reminded of all this because I had a chance to watch the CBC while were at Camp Meade... the headline? "Parti Quebecois (those are the seperatist jerk-offs) has abandoned plans to call for a seperatist referendum anytime in the future. I guess they figured out that it just isn't going to happen...

anyway, that's my rant for today... back to your regularly scheduled programming
